Calling experts: Is it a 82' or 83' ROW 930?
Hello, I am about to explore the dark side... I will be inspecting (with my mechanist) a 930 this week that looks good on paper and photos. The current owner just sent the serial numbers for the chassis and engine:
Chassis : WPOZZZ93ZDS000087 Engine :Type 930/20 N° 63F02012 Can you confirm the year/type of this 930? Thank you very much in advance Mathieu |

The chassis is a 1983 number. The motor is a 1985 number. The sequence is 1981 B 1982 C 1983 D and so on alphabetically for both chassis and motor Numbers

Thanks. I also noticed that the engine type is not that of a turbo (??) so I will check it out with him.

Anything with a WPOZZZ is a ROW car. Doesn't the 930xx engine number make it a 930 engine vs. a NA motor?

According to Brian Anderson's 911 Handbook, the 930/20 engine is a 3.2 litre 84-86 Carrera RoW NA engine. 930/51 thru 930/68 are the 3.0 and 3.3 factory turbo production engines.

The series engine that should be in the car is 930/66; RoW with engine serial numbers 76D0001 and up.

You guys are right. Why would someone stuff a SC engine in a 930 chassis? Does the owner have an answer?
BTW. I'd pass on the car unless he was giving it away so you could afford to install the correct engine in it. |

I spoke to the owner and he confused the numbers between his former 85' 3.2 and his turbo!! He has not given the serial number for the engine but I'll check it thursday during the inspection.
The car has only 88.000km (documented) and was firt sold to a (rich) business man in Barain. It has all the usual options (full leather etc..) plus the ridiculously expensive huge Recaro seats with the 747 like control console... |

Oops.
ALL 911 turbos in USA between 80 and 86 are gray market. |

Most of 1980 through 1985. There were a few 1980 models shipped the US and the turbo returned starting MY1986.
