My First 930

I wanted to introduce myself to the forum and also say thanks to everyone that posts questions and answers. I have been on the sidelines here for about two years and all the things that I learned were very helpful in choosing the right car and asking the right questions. I especially want to thank ewave and ron89930 for letting me kick the tires on their 930’s prior to my purchase of the car below. I’ve had the car for a couple of months now. Sorry I didn’t post sooner but I needed pictures to avoid the TPIWWP! Here are the pictures.

It has just over 70K miles, some nice upgrades, some issues. But the car ROCKS!

Cool! Welcome aboard.

From the looks of the exhaust, I think an engine pic is in order .

Congrats on the sexy girl with fat bottom. Can you elaborate on the "nice upgrades"? also need help with the issues, ask away.

Congratulations! If you've been reading, you know that I just got mine 2-mos. ago... Red, 1979...

Did you make it your 40th b-day present, too? Like 3 or 4 other of us did???

Either way, I can honestly say: "I know how you feel, right now!"

Here is a picture of the engine. Some of the nice things are the Kokeln intercooler, Procooler AC upgrade, Borla exhaust, Limited Slip Differential came from the factory when new, 1 bar spring, VDO boost gauge with tell tale and a strut brace

The first question is about the hose going from the right side of the intercooler to some kind of thing under the air box. Is that supposed to be attached or a little jiggly in there?
Next, can anyone ID this turbo? In the binder that came with the car it says a Garrett based turbo. In pencil on the receipt it says T36s. I can't find out anything about that number. There is also a part number of 430683 on the CHRA. No id tags on the turbo and it looks as if some of the holes on the impeller side have been welded shut.

I took a couple of pictures while it was out.

It was smoking like crazy until hot and then it was fine. PPI said it needed a new turbo, I thought that the oil scavenge tank was too small and that the oiling modification that had been done to it was wrong. I had new lines put in with a .053 restrictor at the turbo, returned the scavenge tank to stock and had the return line go to the scavenge pump rather than into the passenger side cover on the rear of the motor. Since then there has been no smoke at all! Not any at start up either. No drips on the garage floor. I'm still a little nervous about it so I don't romp on it too hard yet as I want to get the AF ratio checked before I do.
It's still way too fun.
First 930 I saw up close was back in the 70's. Watched them race at Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI. They ate up everything. I never thought I could own one but the dream came true. Red to boot!
Thanks for the nice comments.

Welcome to the group! We're all mental on some level!

Looks like you have some nice upgrades (IC) over stock - get it checked (AFR's) and dyno'd etc before you do any more upgrades.

Nice to see a great condition turbo get a new great owner!

Sweet ride, I really like how the exhaust tips come out perpendicular to the rear of the car. Any idea what brand that is? It makes it look like a rocket...well it is a rocket!

Welcome to the forum.

Beautiful car! But if you lower it a tat would be even nicer and handle better...

Enjoy it and be safe.
