I just got these as well- thanks to 911st for the heads-up.
I did a little 10 mile loop and they are certainly quieter than my older Goodyears, and softer riding over highway expansion joints. They are slightly taller than my previous 205/245 pair, but from a looks standpoint I think they look great. They have an old-school more-sidewall look that fills out the wheelwell and to my eye matches the 930 nicely. Have an HPDE coming up 10/15 at NJMP, so I'll see how they perform on the track soon enough.

![]() My car is up on jackstands for my sweet new rarly l8 muffler install. I had the camera out so I snapped a quic pict of the 265"s on the 8 inch rim. I just wanted to show what the sidewall looks like incase anybody is interested in doing the same. They look just a bit pinched as you can tell but not too bad. I have no hesitation recomending these for 8" rims. They are a no brainer if you have the 9s.

Kumho XS 225/50/16 and 265/45/16 Sticky and cheap. Gran Turismo East here in Atlanta put them on. The car has been lowered and the tires fit perfect. I just took her on a mountain run and I LOVE these tires. tate

8" Fuchs
Hi guys, I am replacing my 245/50/16 (khumos) with the ones above 265/45/16s tomorrow... do you think if the 245/50s fit, the 265/45 will be just about the same overall?
I have about 1/2" clearance right now, so I figure it will be just about the same difference. I am judging from the position of the rim on the above pictures that my spacing is about the same. So I'd bet it'll work no problem. My rims are 8js. (8") not 9". I will confirm with some photos tomorrow. I hope I am right. Worst case scenario... I'd have to back down from my 2" spacers to 1.5" spacers or just machine off 1/4" from the back of my 2" spacers. We'll see. Thanks.

Offset between 74 and 80 Chassis?
Neither side rub at all... amazing.
My setup: 8" Fuchs, 265/45/16 2", 2" Billet Spacers in rear, 7" Fuchs front, 225/50/16, 1" spacers in front. Does anyone know if a 74 Chassis has a different offset in the rear from a Post 78' 930? I need 2" spacers to push the wheels out that far. Check out more pictures here: The Next Drive | Scouting the Best Backroads Out There!

2nd the Toyos! Been running Proxes T1R's for a while, best street/light track tire for grip and tread life IMO, and I've been through many different brands/sets.

Tire dimensions and wear
Quote:
As you know, the actual height and actual tread width are defined by the tire size. The X-section - sidewall - profile is something else of course. If you can wait until my car comes out of the shop Tue or Wed, I'll post the max sidewall widths bottom and top of tires at 32F/33R. I can say that like other Kumhos, the sidewalls extend enough that you won't rash up your rims if you kiss a curb parking. Not sure if they specifically claim rim protectors for this tire, but have 'em de facto. Mine's a regular narrow body Carrera with 7&9's, lowered (wasn't when I first posted in this thread), front lips rolled essential, some neg camber dialled in, rears no issues although I have coilovers and 935 plates, not sure if retaining bolts would be close on torsion car. You can easily just pull out the rear fenders enough by hand to give a bit of room (thanks for that tip, Steve Wong!) but you've a 930 so this may not even be an issue. I'd been running 32 front, 34 rear, but rear centers were gettin' it so now I'm giving 32/33 a shot, so far it seems to work better. I'm JUST on my third set of rears in, I'd guess without the docs, some 20k of spirited street (back roads) driving, 2nd set of fronts still good... so until I get harder info, it looks like, allowing for anticpated improvement with 33 rear pressure, say 10-12k rears and 15-18k for fronts... I have to say I love these tires, super grippy, just a slight tad squirly in the wet if you push it but better than previous SO2/3 set up (RIP, NLA). And very quiet, nary a cornering squeal or moan, just a slight roar, given that panic stops do elicit some noise and smoke ;-).

Yup yup mine is a widebody with 9s on the rear. Im not too worried about fitment as i have spacers and can reduce them if nessesary. Just want to check the size vs my 245 50s . Which are about 24.2" tall vs the 25.6 that the tire size calculator says they should be.

I went ahead and bought them. Just so everyone knows. The Kumho Ecsta XS 265/45-16 are 24.75" tall x 10.25" aproximate tread width.

Car was in shop a bit longer than expected... I'm not sure how you measured your tire's OD... By calculation the Kuhmo Ecsta XS 265/45-16 OD is 25.39in (16 + [2 x 265 x 0.45/25.4]); by measurement I got a tad under 25-1/2in on the horizontal diameter. Ditto the tread width measures within a mm or so of the 265mm nominal value (I got a tad over 10-3/8in). The fronts (225/50-16) also measured out at the nominal values.
The maximum width (i.e., including sidewall bulges) measured out at just less than 10-5/8in (axle height) to a max of ≈11in near contact patch for the 265 on 9-in rims at 33psi, and likewise 10in to 10-1/2in for the 225 (on 7-in rims) at 32psi. Cheers

Tirerack says they have 5 left in this size as a closeout. I'm waiting for the 9x16s coming out of England in the spring of 2012 but would consider buying these now and sticking them in a cool, dark room.
Any ideas on if we could find out from Kumho if they are discontinuing the size? Want these for my 73 with SC flares. Quick edit here, called Kumho USA and talked with a nice CS rep for a half hour. She shows (but can't confirm anything really) that they are out of stock and won't have stock for another 5 months. She actually has an order for 8 tires in this size from Tirerack that she can't fill. Kumho USA is sold out of this size. We talked about tire sizes for older cars and let her know about 245s and these 265s. She recommended I call Rick Brennan, VP Marketing, later next week (Marketing is off on a retreat) and let him know about the need for this tire size. Will call him later next week.

Maybe because you are in HI? I just checked my order status, it says they are shipping out of CT, which means if they leave today (they won't), I'll get them tomorrow.

I really like these tires.... I hope they will not discontinue. I will need them in about 1 year or less.
