Super Newbie - Nelson BC just 2 1/2 hrs north of Spokane Wash.

Hello all,

Just purchased an 1983 930 Euro from my brother-in-law. 73000 kms (45k miles). Been waiting for this for about 7 years - well worth the wait. Bought a couple books already and there is rarely a day I am not sifting through the posts on this site trying to learn as much as I can, as I really know very little about the car. And I certainly am not a technical type so won't be doing a lot of work on the car myself. So thought I would throw a few questions out there to get me on the right track.

The exterior is in great shape - minus the cell phone antena that one of the previous owners had installed on the roof...

But the interior certainly needs work. It is light grey carpeting that needs replacing. My brother in law tried to get a match but was not happy with the colours that were sent to him. So he purchased a full set of blacks which are not installed but came with the car when I bought it. What do you think grey seats and doors would look like with black carpets? Anyone with pics of a similar combo? Will be installing whatever carpets I go with myself. Anyone with any tricks that I should keep in mind when I start that project?

Leather dash is in fairly poor shape - fairly warped in spots. Leathers okay. Best solution for that?

Trying to get it back to semi-original condition so have to purchase a few things.

Looking at getting a set of Fuchs. However have a few questions about them. Did original Fuchs come in just black centers or could you have them polished or with spokes from the factory? Think I want black anyway, but more curious than anything. Also, someone told me that I have the big brake package. Do the original 7 and 8 16 inch Fuchs work or do I have to get the Fuchs with the larger offset - saw a set with an 951 offset for example?? And will 9s work on the rear?

Just purchased a three spoke steering wheel. But also looking for an original Blaupunkt Monterey if anyone has one kicking around out there.

Where do I find the codes for my paint and interior? I found the sticker under my hood but doesn't seem to tell me too much. I have included that if anyone can help me out. I was able to figure out the option codes - appears fairly base??

How much of a newbie am I ...well let me tell you. First day I was taking it home I was driving from Kelowna BC to Nelson - about a four hour drive - but apparently a lot quicker in a 930 - who knew. Anyway I knew I was in trouble when I stopped at the gas station and couldn't open the lid for the gas. I knew I was in bigger trouble when I opened the glove compartment and pulled out the owners manual and it was in German. Needless to say, figured it out and was on my way home. So if anyone has a spare english 1983 930 manual out there, let me know

I am sure I will be a regular poster with lots of questions. And thanks in advance for any info that you can give me.

Paul

Love the color!
Ride height is not stock and looks good as well. Brave man to drive an unknown car 4 hours.
Welcome!

Maybe an illusion but rear bumperettes look like large U.S. version.

No Illusion

I think you are right about the rear bumperettes. Took a look at a few other photos of other euro 930s and my bumperettes are definitely bigger. I know he repainted the rear bumper as it was fitted for a european plate. He may have replaced them then. ?? Don't know f they can start to show wear but these ones look in good shape. Just looking through my book and it appears that I also have the reflectors on the outside of the bumperettes that were with the euro models.

Welcome fellow Canadian. If you are ever in Calgary, let us know. There are quite a few 930s in town. Perhaps one day we will do a western Cdn. Turbolooza run.

Hi
If your not using it for work then get some collector plates, you will save big time, that is a nice color, we need interior pics.
i'd go for the Wevo shifter if thats what your doing, have a 87 930 and doing the wevo and a muffler from Brian, i'd keep the interior stock but thats just me, sweet car, did you get the family discount, they sure move out don't they, had mine for a year now and it still amazes me, so much power from such a small motor, Good luck
Finn

Great looking car! Let's see some interior pics.

I think the black carpet might look good. Lay some of it down to get a feeling for it.

Not sure about offsets, but a 9'' Fuchs wheel fits in the back.

Thanks for the comments

Yes, I love the colour too.

Yes Finn, working on getting it a little more stock and will get the Collector's plates - will save me about 60% or more on insurance.

DAI - And Cowtown is my old stomping grounds before I moved to Nelson...so chances are I will be up sometime...might have to plan it for a weekend when you have a ride planned. And don't hesitate to come down here. Two of the top 25 roads in North America for motorbikes are right here on my doorsteps - they are also perfect for the Porsche. Beautiful along the lake and incredibly twisty. Small club of our own in Nelson - about 16 owners or so apparently.

Thanks to everyone else for there comments - look forward to the many mods ahead....

Already closed in my carport to keep my baby warm....who knew the mods would include home renos....

Interior photos are coming.

Cheers

Paul

Paul, we always have group ride out here in Calgary. Matter of facts, we had one today but the weather was crappy. There is a small group of us thinking about going to watch next year Western Targa rally happening in Kelowna. If we do, you definitely have to come out. Take care.
