Design wise 321 is the best, just look at the spec sheets and compare it with 304. Marketing wise, what is going to be the price difference between 304 and 321?
My 2 cents, you have proved to make great systems with 321. Don't start a price point Battle with the cheaper 304 stuff. I had to choose a few months ago, worked for me, since I am bolting on your system somewhere next week! |
Those look great Brian, what size are the primary pipes? How is the clearance for changing out lower plugs on the drivers side? The lighter 321 option sounds best.
|
321 it is, glad to see that quality is still valued in this economy.
Primary pipes are 1.5" secondary is 2". I just pulled the valve covers and checked my valve adjustment last week with the waste gate still mounted up, lots of clearance built in. I've got a picture somewhere ... |
Brian, i'm with the majority, anyone even looking at your headers has already done their research. The benifits of what you have created, equal length in every way, ease of fitment, retaining stock oil parts, being able to still remove the valve covers with nothing removed, top notch wastegate plumbing...... They will want the best material for the job at the sake of a few extra ££.
Any idea when we are going to see some back to back dyno data with these, against normal aftermarket B&B syle, and stock? Would be great if you could do the three runs on the same day and overlap the graphs. It's a big ask though :) |
I had dyno time scheduled 2 months ago.
Made a big mistake and removed my engine a week before the dyno run to fix oil leaks and swap tranaxles. Did a lot of "while you are in there's" during the drop. When I put the engine back in the newly rebuilt tranny made a noise so I had to drop the engine again. I wanted to do the dyno work so I put the old tranny back on and put the engine back in the car. Started the car and it ran horribly. Chased that ghost for a week until the mechanic who rebuilt the tranny re-rebuilt it and then I dropped the engine for a 3rd time. Found and replaced a bad injector. Put the engine back in the car and it still runs badly. Tranny sounds good though on the lift. Found 2 leaking fuel lines. Looks like I disturbed so many old components that they have revolted. Purchased several used CIS parts on line and got scammed by a scumbag in Florida. Now in the middle of a fraud investigation. Bought more CIS parts from a fellow in CA who told me yesterday that the bank is holding my corporate check for 14 days (which is illegal). Called him last night and e-mailed him a copy of the cleared check (gotta love on-line banking). He offered to ship the parts today. You can only imagine my frustration at this point. I wish to God I'd never taken that engine out of the car until after the dyno run. But who could imagine such a comedy of errors? So to answer your question, God only knows and he's having a good chuckle right now. |
Brian i'm sorry to hear of your woes, but you're talking to someone who's 930 has spent more time without an engine than it has with one!! I know how it feels, only too well.... Just hurry up ok :)
Don't get me started on God, if only he was real i would give him a serious piece of my mind! :D |
What was the cost differance?
|
Cost difference using thick wall T304 vs 321 is a couple hundred bucks or so on the finished product, about a 10% bump to use 321.
I was out in the shop until ~12:30 last night boxing headers for shipment at 7:30 this morning. I've got to build several mufflers and polish 2 sets of headers this weekend so the car will sit. Maybe I'll roll it around so the tires don't flat spot. |
Looks like we'll be getting dyno data from other people before you Brian! If anyone here is taking delivery of Brian's system, and all you are changing is the exhaust system (no new turbo etc), would you be kind enough to get a dyno run before you do the swap, and then do it again after. Probably an impossible ask, but data like that would be really cool to see....
|
Well Brian good feedback I am glad you posted that. I wonder how the N/A folks feel about it? that may make the possibilty for us to produce both 304 and 321 headers and still meet your price point
|
What is the price going to be?
|
Introductory price (in 321) was $2195. I'm looking at ways to keep it at that price and T304 was one of the options.
|
I had a spare moment today and took another quick stab at fixing my car. I was able to fix one last leaking injector. The engine still runs rough but now it runs so this is progress. I received an e-mail from the fellow in CA who sold me a Euro CIS and that is on the way.
I'm determined to get this car fixed and to the dyno. Just gotta juggle a few things ... |
Polished a set today that are heading to Florida:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1258931348.jpg Here are the words that will remain on all the 930 headers, "made in USA" and "321". Those first 3 words are getting more scarce every day. Thanks all for the input! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1258931463.jpg |
