79' 930 suspension
I have a 1979 930 and the front suspension/ steering seems sloppy. I lowered it and put a dump steer kit. Anyone have option about upgrade bushings - elephant racing, etc. It's for occassional driving but not racing and don't want to spent too much $$. Thx

Does it feel the same as your 993?
(by the way, it is called a "bump-steer" kit, not "dump" steer kit.)

I have elephant on mine and they work great, but they're not the cheapest option.

I ordered the Walrod bushings for my 993. My 930 does wobble like my 993.

I put on the polygraphite bushings on the front and have a lot of squeaking. If I drove mostly on the track I wouldn't care, but I drive 90% on the road. Maybe some lube would help though, or a few thousand miles? I did put on Elephant polybronze's on the rear, they are nice and quiet.

^^^ Did you use the lube and lots of it? I've got about 11k miles on my car with the urethane bushings without problems.

Grab the top of the front wheels and give it the push pull thing to see if you have something else that is up?
What front springs, tires, toe, caster, and front bearing thrust? They all can impact how the front feels. A strut top and tower brace might help. I love the SRP Camber King set up. The front a arm bushings are just a small part of what effects the front. Having said that, most 930's regardless of miles probably have the front bushings colapsed. You might just need new tie rod ends and an alignment. Check air pressure and the front tires too.
After that it's just lots of fun upside down work removing the front suspension and cleaning everything and replaceing the control arm bushings. Dirty job, not easy getting it all backtogether, and time consuming.. but very satisfying once it's all done. |
