Price for the that very nice car?

Coach House 911 10-27-2010 03:53 PM

Thanks for the valuable comments Richard. I am comfortable buying in the U.S. and will take your advice and hopefully put it towards the 930 I am looking for.
I hope to do as much maintenance as I can myself but also willing to set aside the dollars required for upkeep.
Hopefully the right one will show in the near future. The $39k car is not the one.
Best Regards,
Mike

Good luck with the search - if your budget is in the mid-high 30s you'll find something pretty nice, save some $$s for maintenance / mods, and have fun in the process. The importation into Canada is worth the (minimal) effort - feel free to PM if you'd like more details as I've done it a couple of times.

My friend responded to that pelican listing and found out it was a brown car originally. He was not pleased that this was not disclosed upfront. 99% sure it was this car.

AL Z 10-31-2010 03:37 PM

DDDD,
I am not sure if your friend is speaking about my car. I do not know what you mean by "upfront" Everyone that has called me about my car has been told that the car was repainted by the previous owner who is Porsche mechanic and works at a porsche dealership. The car was repainted to a very high level of workmanship by the same bodyshop who performs all the paint work for the Porsche dealership. The car was taken apart and all new seals, windows, windshield, doors, fenders etc. were installed. The origianl color was an ugly goldish color. I apologize to your friend if there was a missunderstanding.
I have sold several of my past porsches here and two 993 on rennlist ("cactus" guard red 993 and Brendan 993 polar silver 993) and have never had an issue. Actually, they still keep in touch to tell me how great their cars have been.
I will include the painted once before statement on the post. I really did not think it was SO important to do so.
Thanks in advance,
AL

I spoke with Al about his car and found him to be very up front about the color change and accurate about all aspects of his representations. The color change required a restoration beyond most repaints, so if you need a original color car well.... otherwise from what I can see, for the price and the quality of work done along with the fresh rebuild and everything else ( and not over built for to much HP), if you want a well done nice performing 930, this one is worth a serious look see. After all a 930 has so much more to going for it than is it "original paint", compared to some other collectibles that have not much else to crow about. I have one that originally was a color I am not to fond of, that was changed, before i got it, to a original to the year color. I have sold many "original color cars" since and have always elected to keep this one, cause it drives, looks and preforms so nice.

turbo3six 11-01-2010 03:50 AM

Honestly represented?????

 A repaint is one thing... a color change repaint is another entirely different consideration. The seller is absolutely required to disclose such in any 'for sale' offer in order for the cars condition to be considered properly and honestly represented; imho.

I do not disagree, if he would misrepresent the car after the inquiry ( he does state the car was repainted in the ad, so it seems to me it would be necessary to ask why when inquiring ), as there can be extenuating circumstances as many repaints were due to accidents or misuse and many were retitled thru certain states with lax laws, with insurance totals and retitled with clean titles. I for one would sooner have a car that was color changed because the original color was terrible than one that was repainted due to an accident, misuse or neglect. Of course the best situation to have is a perfect original paint car, with everything kept to perfection in appearance to Porsche concours category #1 and driving standards, however they are very to hard to find in this price range. Also not everyone wants a perfect original for the additional price. As I alluded to in my first response I have had them both ways ( never a rebuilt wrecked one ) and have always decided to keep a certain color changed car ( and happy to have the difference money that I got for the perfect originals I sold ) because it is so nice in other ways. So yes, a seller should always volantary disclose the reason for the repaint,. You , and your friend that took offence, think it should be disclosed in the innitial ad. I don't know how many times I have inquired into 930s for sale ( as a matter of fact most of them ) that after close examination of all the things I consider when buying for myself or a client, I discover things that are not disclosed that make me wonder why I called. That what makes finding just what I'm looking for, when I find it, all seem worth it.

I've been looking for a low miles, no issues, mint condition 930 for a friend now for about a year. One reason he hasn't pulled the trigger is the prices keep going down. These cars have asking prices in the 30's and are actually selling in the mid-20's. You can buy a 996tt for $39 now, no way on earth I'd spend that on a 930.
Washington may say the resession is over but these prices scream a different story.

voitureltd 11-01-2010 07:40 PM

I know of some people that have purchased 996 tt and have gotten rid of them to get a 930 again. Some keep them both. Where are you finding these cars?? If you find any mint 930s in the $20s- low $30s. I'll gladly pay you more for them. Many older Porsches models are just more desireable to some than the later things off the showroom.

RarlyL8 11-02-2010 10:49 AM

Tony, I talk to a lot of 930 folks every day. They know I am looking and call me with leads. Probably find one car like this every month or two. If another quality candidate comes up that he passes on I'll give you the info. I really don't want to make money on it as most are distress sales.

voitureltd 11-02-2010 03:24 PM

Brian, I will appreciate checking out any nice 930s that you ( or others ) send information on. Thanks Tony@VoitureLTD

...still looking and learning.
I am hestitant about the dropping prices as well but not so much that will deter me if the right car comes around -Silver/Red and original.
One wonders what prices the next 6 months will bring...? Although the 996 & 7's are close to 930 territory they still don't compare to the quality materials and craftsmanship in my opinion.

Exactly.

Just for fun, this is a thread I started a while back. Best deal I ever saw ever was on a silver car and it still hurts to this day that I passed it up, but I just was not in a position to have two 930s...

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/911-930-turbo-super-charging-forum/466101-what-bargain.html

It sold for $23 grand, and it had a powerful engine rebuild done the right way, non sunroof, just everything possible.

Coach House 911 11-15-2010 05:30 PM

...what a beauty of a deal!!

I guess that Tony is correct in saying that when the right one comes along be prepared to pull the trigger.

Did anyone see the '79 930 that sold last week on eBay? Looked like a great car. I attempted many times to contact the seller however the contact info was blocked out. Sold for $31,650

Porsche : 930 on eBay.ca (item 230545524569 end time 08-Nov-10 19:00:00 EST)

Pete, I see it is on ebay now. are you out of town? I have been trying to get you to call me and send some detailed photos as I would like to know the cars condition prior to the good looking color combo now. The extensive mechanical refurnishing, period correct new interior and cosmetic restoration that you have done should make this a great car for someone to drive and enjoy albeit not for some that want a Kardex color correct show car. Pm or call before the auction closes as it looks like the reserve is off now and will be sold to the last bid. Thanks Tony

Sure did. I was bidding over $31k but the seller did not have much for records. Still should have bid more as it went very cheap if it was as he thought it was. Anyone on this forum get it?
