How to identify G50/50?

Hello,

how can we identify a G50/50 for sure from outside?
..often the numbers on the bottom plate are invisible

further, is there a difference from outside to a G50/00?

Anyone know the latest prices for a G50/50 with LSD?

thanks
Falk

Hi Falk,

To me it does not look like a G50/50, more like a G50/03, G50/04, G50/05

Look at this link which describes some of the G50

California Motorsports Porsche G50 5 speed transmission section

...maybe this helps to identify this gearbox?

that is just a part number for the housing.
you should find the number to identify the tranny under the transmission.
You do not have a g50/50.
It can be a g50/52 or a G50/03, G50/04, G50/05. It will say under the tranny if it's not grinded away...

Yes,
I already found that this is G50/52.
As I have a 87 930 with G50/00 conversion,
this G50/52 will not fit easy.

Further, I havn`t bought this gearbox yet,
for me it seems less worth then a G50/50,
is that correct?

Anyone know what is involved to swap a G50/00 for a G50/52?

The 50/52 is the stock 964 turbo box, and obviously easier to come by.
You can tell by counting the bolts around the side cover, the 50/50 and 50/52 have 12 bolts, i think the lower "none turbo" G50's only have 11. I didn't think there was any real difference between the 50/50 and 50/52, but i have heard somewhere that the 50/50 was stonger, but not sure. Either are great boxes!!

The g50/52 has a bigger differential. the differential housing is aprox 2.3cm longer than g50/01.
Also i think the trannsmissions that have dual mass flywheel has 2mm longer clutch housing.

You ca see my g50/01 to g50/52 swap here: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/461612-converting-long-g50-into-short-g50.html

If you already have a g50 I don't se the need for a g50/52...

Stein,

Great thread. I am looking for a G50 for my build and this made things a lot easier for me to make my decision.

Although, I still may look for a 6 speed.

Stein,
I saw your conversion threat before, very infomative!

Another difference seems the front cover with the
different mounting points.
In Steins conversion the front cover was simply cutted
and if I am right, new mounting points welded on.

The G50/52 above has a LSD and is for sale+ ship
across Europe at ~2250,- Euro (3200$)
If I pass on this, I will let you know,
maybe one here needs it.

All G50/50's and G50/52 boxes came with LSD from the factory.
I don't agree that any G50 is as good, the gearing in the turbo boxes is better suited for the turbo, and they are stronger.
2250 euros is an absolute steel Falk, the kit car guys would pay double that figure. Other than it being a bit dirty, do you know if it's in good shape?

truly, only the seller states its in very good condition.
more, I guess its neccessary to open it to see the condition.

To bad it isn`t a G50/50 which I would like to have for the case
my G50/00 needs replacement.
