So I am back in the market for a 930...
So I am back in the market for a 930 as the leak down test/PPI on the car I had a deposit on did not work out.
![]() The car had 47,000 miles and was totally pristine, all except apparently two burned valves... I was prepared to spend a little more for the car pictured above, but at this point I think I would be better off to try and find the nicest 930 I can find for about $25grand or less. I know there are a number of cars with high miles but rebuilt power in that price range, so I am thinking I might focus around that range for now to see if I can find a good first 930 to cut my teeth on. Any recommendations? Thanks for your thoughts, Dave |

I personally know of a slate grey metallic on can-can and black that is sorted and a super nice ride for $28k.
My buddy just put it on ebay after advertising here for a couple weeks. PM me if you want more info.

Thanks Reaper I talked to Pete about that '79 930 a couple times. Sounds like a very nice car.

Hey Robert, I am in Northern VA, just South of Washington DC about 20 miles or so.
I am willing to travel a reasonable distance for a good deal on a good car. 500 miles or maybe even farther might not be too far if I was properly motivated.

Robert,
Wow, a yellow 77 930! I have a copper brown metallic in pieces that i have yet to drive. I wish I had a working 930 while waiting for it to get done.

Another option
Rod on this forum has a beautiful white 87-930 with 50k on the clock. Asking $35 I think.
Here is a link from 6speedonline. Another pristine clean vehicle. Care is located in Fresno, CA. FS: 1987 Porsche 930 Turbo - 6speedonline.com Forums Best of luck with the search, Bryan

Yea
DGW, Yea, it is fun. I just pulled the K27 and sent it out to be rebuilt. I'm almost done. Left is to pull the 964 rockers and get rid of the RSR 3.8 tail. I got the real 930 turbo tail and the orig rockers. But they are from a Black 930. After that it is just the roofline and I am done. Dumped lots of money. Great to drive. Now after its done, I want to move on to a 993.
That is why RideSober, I asked you where you were. If you were close, I would say come to the shop where my 930 is and take a look. I would say wait until the upgraded k27 comes in. So you can play..... LOL.... Here is a link for the start of my rebuild of my 930... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/911-930-turbo-super-charging-forum/492239-1977-porsche-930-turbo.html Robert

I read your build thread. Very entertaining. Broken head studs is one of the reasons mine is still in pieces. It sounds like you are going to sell the car, what do you think you might be asking for it?

I love that track. I never got to drive it as much as I would have liked to.
I notice you lifted at least once just before the top of the hill going into the corkscrew, was that because of traffic?

Wasn't really selling it. I was going to keep it and get a project 993. Then I thought, I would have to get another house to get a two car garage. So before I get a 993, I was going to finish the 930 to what I would say is 100% and move it on. So I am at 90%.
I will take pics and update that post. Since that post, I put the new FabSpeed intercooler. Man what a piece of art. Fabspeed rules in my book. Also I put a intervative wideband/AFR and gauge in. I started to blow a bit of smoke on boost. Pulled the intercooler off and say a bit of oil. Since I did't rebuild the turbo, I just ripped it out last week and sent it out to California to be rebuilt. I might make a quicker spooling update. Still in the air about that. I have to do the Headliner. The interior of the car looks great. The head liner is white and just old. I also got the Orig. Turbo S steering wheel and Boost gauge. Made the car look so much better inside. I also installed floating rotors and the black 930 brakes in the front with a larger master cylinder. The rears are still the Carrara S brakes. Still in the air if I want to change the rear. I would have to drop the rear trailing arms and get them machined to accept the rear 930 brakes. They didn't have the turbo brakes until 78. So after all that is said and done, I would say it would be ready to keep and drive for a while or sell. Problem I am having is that I had an ACL replacement years back. When I get stuck in traffic, the clutch kills me. I have a TDI Jetta and a Jeep wrangler that both have hydraulic clutch's and I can be in traffic all day with out a problem. The 930, kills me. I walk like an 80 year old man for a week. That is why I am looking for a 993. I thought of a 996 but the problems they have and the fact that its liquid cooled. Robert

Oh, Price. I forgot that. I know I would never get what I've put into it. If I did the car would be a crazy price. So in this market, I would ask for $27,000.

I think you may be missing a clutch helper spring? The 930 is a bit stiff, but without this helper spring, it's REALLY stiff!

WerK,
Thanks. I had brought a new spring and had the spring rebuilt. It isn't an issue when I am driving around upstate and around normal driving. When I get in traffic. NY has tons of that. If I go to visit my inlaws in Long Island and get stuck in traffic. Then its a pain. Or if I go to see my sister and brother in law in NJ. The Garden state PKWY has tons of traffic. I drove it to Hershey for the show, and it is by chance the same weekend of my High School career day in Hershey and I speak there every year. I drove it all weekend and was fine. Went to Cape Code with it in October. Was fine. It just seems to be in traffic. I need the Hydro clutch. I even thought of putting a G50 in it but for all that, I'll just sell it and get another project. I get bored fast. Robert

Still 930 Shopping...
I am still actively searching cyberspace looking for the right 930, and any good leads from board members would be appreciated.
![]() I have spoken with a number of very thoughtful board members about their cars and came pretty close to "pulling the trigger", but it seems for one reason or another, I have not quite found any that seem to be the right match. Perhaps I am a little more cautious now as my wallet is still a little lighter after recently wasting some of my hard earned cash on a PPI that did not work out. ![]() Being in Virginia I really would like to find a car closer than California (the location of the nicest car/best deal I have found), and I guess I do feel I would like to have a reasonable assurance that the car will pass the PPI before I incur the cost this time. ![]() Am I being unreasonable? I know a $25K budget may seem a little low to some sellers, but based on what I have been seeing, I think it is certainly in the ballbark and perhaps I might be able to stretch a little without too many objections from my wife. Any thoughts or recommendations? Thanks for all your input, and cheers! |
