What car is it, what are the details, and what are you working on? I am sure there is enough persuasion and inspiration around here to get you to keep it, finish it, and enjoy it. Never give up man!

I say give up, I'll give you $1000 for it.

1979 Euro. K27 turbo, headers (not installed yet), RSA carpet, Sparco seats, Innovate AFR, Hargett shifter, ER polybronze on the front, new tie rod ends, ball joints, bushings, New Kumho Ecsta tires on 8x16 front and welded up 10x16 rear, rebuilt RarlyL8 WUR, Tial 46mm wastegate ... blah blah. Probably needs a top end rebuild. True mileage unknown. Cosmetically 7-8 out of 10. Just sick of working on cars, I just want to drive them......

You'll probably get bored just driving it after a while. Florida weather is great for doing stuff to your car now.

Mark, slowly back away from the ledge

I feel that way sometimes too. It's usually when I'm facing a job that I think is complex.
I wait until the motivation returns and once I start it, I'm ok.
Unless you buy a 991, everything else will need to be worked on, be it enhancements or maintenance stuff. Take a break and wait for your motivation to return.

I'm sick of working on my turbo'd Carrera 3.2 (3.4), I just want to drive it too.

I rebuilt the engine after being down 2.5 years and after 450 miles, the Motronic has thrown me in a loop. I've spent hours of work and months down trying to fix it.

The only motivation I have left is 1) I'll never be able to reproduce this car in the near future and 2) the go-kart feel and sledgehammer hit of the turbo keeps the hope alive.

What exactly is wrong you are battling may I ask?

mine took me two years to get put together. It was wrecked and all in pieces when i bought it. Since i got it restored it has been apart a lot for mods or repairs. it does get very frustrating at times

I've just lost the passion for working on it. When I was younger I loved working on my cars but now, not so much. I just don't enjoy it anymore and want to move on. The cost of ownership (money and time) is greater than the enjoyment of driving it.

Pictures can be deceiving. It's a decent 15 footer but no better.

If it doesn't bring you any joy, probably time to move on. With the exception of rotor and pad replacement last spring, I have done almost nothing to mine this year except drive it. That is the longest period that has passed without a major project since I purchased the car 4 years ago. It has been nice to just drive it.

You may have seen in what project I am now and what I have done before. When my motivation is low, then I have a break. Can be a few weeks or just a couple of hours

However, I know what you are talking about. Had the same with my motorcycle. I work on my bike all the time, plus my profession was in that business too. So after ten years I sold my bike for the same reason. Guess how long I was without... After a half year the missing was grown too big and I bought another one. Since then, I cannot be without and never will be. But It can be that I do not touch or drive for months. Only the knowing to have one is then just fine.

So if it's not another project ahead for you, I would keep the car

As others have said taking a break helps but if that doesn't do it then it's time to move on. I had an 85 carrera for nine years that had me to that point. I sold it. Within a year and a half the itch started again and oops I was back in the game except this time she had a fat ass.

A Porsche is like that girl that drives you crazy to the point that you just want to be single again but when your single again you kinda feel like your missing something. So you start looking again and bam your in a relationship..hopefully this one goes a bit smoother but it never does it's just a different kind of crazy...but maybe a crazy that you can live with for a long time( but you may not want a fat ass on this one....lol )

I feel your pain "speednme1". I've got multiple projects going and never seems like they end. I'm going to get rid of a couple this next year to better focus time and resources on a car I can drive.

I hope the break works for you. It is a great hobby so long as it stays an hobby and does not become a choir.

Actually I'm good..I was replying to the OP on this thread but thanks anyway. You are right though, it is a great hobby as long as it doesn't become a chore.

good luck on your projects in 2012...

You may have done so already.....set time away for break. If desire doesn't come back - move on.

In the future if go kart- turbo hit starts to burn steadily, get in again..but with a platform that doesn't bring you to the same place.

I know more easily said than done...but very possible.

I loved these cars for a long time and got in 1.5 yrs ago...have a large reserve. Wish you were closer...would come over with alcohol for medicinal puposes.
