MSD 8202 coil and CDI
If my coil should fail on my still-CIS 86 930, can I substitute an MSD 8202 without causing problems with the OEM ignition system?
Thanks. |

No, it's the wrong impedance (the coils primary wiring resistance). I don't know if the inpedance is too high or too low for bosch and permatune CD ignitions but it will eventually burn out a bosch CDI.
Th new clear anodized aluminum replacement Bosch coils are made in Brazil and are known to be short lived especially if mounted upside down on the fan housing where they often slowly leak out some of the oil inside and burn out. Old NLA black painted German made bosch coils for 930 or SC are the good ones and the most reliable one you can buy now. New permatune epoxy filled coils will work with bosch CDI and are probably the best quality new ones you can get. Or get an MSD CDI and you can use an MSD coil. |
