Headlight switch issue
so the headlight switch has three positions or detents.
1. all the way in and off 2. pull to the first detent everything is on? not the fogs of course 3. pull to the second detent or all the way out everything is on? not the fogs of course what is to come on at position 2? and position 3? it would seem that in position 2 that the lower front fogs or driving lights should come on? and maybe the rear marker lights? let me know how yours is set up?

1980 ROW 930
1. Off position, nothing on, but if Right or Left Turn Signal is applied the corresponding Side Marker lights front and rear will be on. This was used in Europe for roadside parking. 2. 1st. detent position Parking and Side Market lights on front and rear. 3. 2nd. detent position Side Marker, Parking, and Head lights on front and rear. 4. Fog Lights will be a separate switch with a yellow face just left of the Cigarette Lighter. Cole

Coles post is correct.
The way they come wired origonally the fog lights will only come on when the switch is pulled out all the way so parking and headlights are on and only when the low beams are on. Turn on the high beams and the fog lights will shut off. That makes sense because in fog the high beams will light up all the fog above the ground so bright you can't see the road through it. Fog lights put out a low, flat, wide, bow tie shaped beam that when aimed right skims across the surface of the road without illuminating the fog above it so you can see it through the fog. There is a single thin brown ground trigger wire on one of the headlight or fog light relays that when removed makes it so the fog lights will come on anytime. I forgot which one it is but a search on the technical forum should eventually find it. I came across the post explaining it and did that 5 years ago so I have full control of the foglights. |

ok, so this is what i found. key off, pull to 1st detent it works as cole said with exception to the side markers but i dont care about that. when key is turned to start position the headlight buckets come up(its a slant) any idea what wire is for the headlight actuator buckets? i know they did not make slants until 86 or so but this is what i have and as far as i know this is all factory. I am thinking i need to move a wire to a different fuse to make it so it wont activate? or this a relay thing? i hate electrical

ok i figure it out by accident. it looks like the actual switch is wired wrong. it all works fine until you turn the knob to adjust the brightness, then the buckets come up? this will be fun.
