Dan Jacobs (Hairy Dog garage vs other 964 Turbo expert shops
Hello All,
Thinking about taking my '91 964 Turbo to Dan Jacobs ( KY > CT) to go over the car for me and to sort out few issues in the process. There isn't as such anything wrong with the car it's just I am not sure what's normal and what's not normal for the car. I don't think local Porsche dealership/Indy shops have any expertise on this particular model/car? I am pretty dead set on doing this until one of you give me another name who is as experienced in 964 Turbos as Dan Jacob is? The shop has to be on the East coast as I am in KY. Please advice. Thanks |

Pat Williams Racing (porsche)
No personal experience with Dan Jacobs, but have heard many good things about him. Pat Williams is a much shorter commute from Kentucky. No personal experience with him either, but based on what I read, the guy knows his $hit. For all I know, he only touches race cars...probably worth you looking into.

Yes he is a great guy too but when I talked to him he wanted to make the car into a race car
![]() All I want to do is to have some one go over the car for me to make sure it is is what it should be and to help me retain it's originality. I might still give him a call just to see if would service the car for me without making it a monster

I believe there are a couple of good shops in St.Louis. Let me dig up their names.

Don't know much about the other shops mentioned but had Dan Jacob's shop install my Smart Racing sway bars. Did a great job on the install and alignment. Kept to said time and price..a plus in my book.
I'm sure there are plenty of good wrenches on your way from Kentucky(to Connecticut) though. |

If it helps your decision making, Pat Williams just completed a serious rebuild/restoration of my 84 dp935. Let me assure you the man is top notch. I only wish I was as close in proximity as you are. It was worth the journey from NJ to TN. Go there. You will be blown away.

I took a car to Maine from NY for some custom metal work and painting, so I get your thinking here that the right shop is worth two long drives versus a short trip to the wrong shop. I used Dan Jacobs last month and was impressed with their competency and down to earth attitude.
I've also had the opportunity to meet Pat Williams and tour his shop. He had cars of every sort around, from wild to wild. He makes some crazy power with EFI utilizing the stock pancake manifold and several OEM (Ford, IIRC) EFI componentry. He was helping my friend with a supercharger on a new Cayman, so he does modern stuff too. In your case, I'd use Pat.

I would work with either Dan or Pat on any air cooled car. Not just good builders but good people. |

There is a shop here in Lexington that has maintained a local customer's 964 Turbo for years. It's called Foreign Affairs Autowerks. Brian Wooldridge, the owner, is a factory trained Porsche technician.
