'76 row 930/935 to the bodyshop... input on some details please.
 

I've been fiddling with this thing for almost a year. Had almost zero history when I started and have been slowly making it shipshape & roadworthy.

Mechanically, she is pretty much there after doing every little thing I could think of. Now she is off to the bodyman for some finishing details.

Would welcome input on the following...

~I'm replacing the missing plexi headlight covers in the, ummm, "bumper". Clear plexi or the yellow tinted stuff?

~This thing has RSR Fuchs (15" x 9" & 11") with body color (ice green metallic I think it is called) petals and polished lips. It was missing the front centercaps but I sourced 2 new (used) ones. Should I paint them to match the rears? Those are black with painted crests. Or paint all 4 body color? Or something else? Can I buy them already painted like the rear ones are?

~I love the black/red/silver stripes. Those are staying. The "K/S" on the frunk and all the crap on the decklid below the wing are gonzo. The "Kremer Street" on the rocker panels I'm wavering either way. Get rid of those too, yes?

~Anyone know what the weird Bosch thing on the rear parcel shelf is?

Sierra Madre makes center caps finished in black with the gold stripe that would match the rears.

My 2cents, take all lettering off, turbo badge in the proper location, or a dp or Kramer decal on the rear deck lid. Keep it simple. I like center caps matching the wheels, so paint them to match body color. Like that car, engine pics?

No idea what that Bosch-thingy is on the back shelf. Would have to trace the wires to see just what it hooks up to. Might be an ultrasonic sensor for a burglar alarm???

What's that mondo-huge contraption hanging down beneath the AC passenger side? Maybe a mid 70's version of digital sound?

As to the wheel center caps, mine too are painted to match the wheels (white), though I've been toying with replacing them with black/gold as in one of your shots. Still on the fence with that, though.

I think I know what that dial is at the factory location. I had one in my 82 930's glovebox.

I would just d/c the lettering and you're good to go!

I would find out how it was originally built by Kremer ( if indeed it was) and remove all the dooda stuff that was added since. Then it will be a more valued 930. Lots of other neat drivers out there with upgrades done by others. The custom Porsche's built by Kremer, DP Motorsports, Alan Johnson Racing, Andial, RUF Etc, were developed back then ( at great expense for those who wanted a special 930 ) as an alternative to the pedestrian ones you could get at the Porsche dealer. Therefore I would put it back to original and enjoy it as such. My 2cents.
The only thing I would consider ( you indicate it is not as fast as it looks) for your satisfaction, would be to add more performance with parts offered by Kremer if they were available from them when the car was built.
I'm sure there are those who would gladly trade ( with a sweetheart deal ) your historically correct Kremer with another 930 if you wanted something else later. Simply put it is not original if not as Kremer built it.

Neat car. I have a very similar 81 Kremer 930. Were you able to speak with anyone who has knowledge about production #'s etc? How many made, at what cost? I have contacted Kremer, but the paper trail from the 80's is terrible, and the only thing that could be confirmed is that it's a Kremer car, but that was about it.

Is your car a 3.0L Turbo?

I would keep the car as original as possible, the lettering on the back looks bogus, but my car has similar lettering on the back, with the "K" on the frunk as well. Very cool color, very cool car! Just my 2Cents.

I think the Bosch part may be a proximity sensor for an alarm or maybe part of a radar detection system. Do you have any more pictures of the control panel where the stereo would normally be mounted?

I think to be historically correct to drive that car you need to have starred in a 70's porn movie, or at a minimum grow a Tom Sellick mustache .... :-)

Since both Manfred and Erwin kremer have passed, information may be more difficult to obtain for the cars they produced for customers for street use. Recently I did get additional info on the 1984 Kremer I have, however it was obtained from a German Porsche affectionado who had spent time at the Kremer shop over the years. Regarding my previous post, Kremer GMBH is a highly respected builder especially in Germany.
My experience from info I have been privy to is, the cars they built are most desirable to the folks over there if kept or returned to as they were originally built. Others on this forum in past posts have info on Kremer cars if you search.

I am sure that the information will come the longer I have the car.... I just love the paint/stripe schemes from this period, even though the cars are older than I am. They are very retro-cool to me.

Have you tried DP Motorsports as I believe they produced the kevlar parts for Kremer cars. My Kremer needed a new front bumper from scraping over speed bumps and was replaced rather than repaired around 10 years ago.

Do they have a facility in the US? DP Motorsports that is.

Maybe one in England and the home shop in Germany. Mr Zimmerman ( DP Motorsports ) only speaks German, however his son is fluent in English and is very helpful. Also check with GUMBA, as he is an active member on this forum and founder of the DP 935 registry.

They have a pretty active Facebook page. It is primarily German but they should be easy enough to contact.
