'76 row 930/935 to the bodyshop... input on some details please.
I've been fiddling with this thing for almost a year. Had almost zero history when I started and have been slowly making it shipshape & roadworthy.
Mechanically, she is pretty much there after doing every little thing I could think of. Now she is off to the bodyman for some finishing details. Would welcome input on the following... ~I'm replacing the missing plexi headlight covers in the, ummm, "bumper". Clear plexi or the yellow tinted stuff? ~This thing has RSR Fuchs (15" x 9" & 11") with body color (ice green metallic I think it is called) petals and polished lips. It was missing the front centercaps but I sourced 2 new (used) ones. Should I paint them to match the rears? Those are black with painted crests. Or paint all 4 body color? Or something else? Can I buy them already painted like the rear ones are? ~I love the black/red/silver stripes. Those are staying. The "K/S" on the frunk and all the crap on the decklid below the wing are gonzo. The "Kremer Street" on the rocker panels I'm wavering either way. Get rid of those too, yes? ~Anyone know what the weird Bosch thing on the rear parcel shelf is? If only she were as fast as she looked, heh heh :) http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...2/IMG_2637.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...2/IMG_2645.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...2/IMG_2646.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...2/IMG_2662.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...2/IMG_2649.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...2/IMG_2648.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...2/IMG_2647.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...2/IMG_2639.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...2/IMG_2638.jpg |
Front Center Caps
Sierra Madre makes center caps finished in black with the gold stripe that would match the rears.

My 2cents, take all lettering off, turbo badge in the proper location, or a dp or Kramer decal on the rear deck lid. Keep it simple. I like center caps matching the wheels, so paint them to match body color. Like that car, engine pics?
|
No idea what that Bosch-thingy is on the back shelf. Would have to trace the wires to see just what it hooks up to. Might be an ultrasonic sensor for a burglar alarm???
What's that mondo-huge contraption hanging down beneath the AC passenger side? Maybe a mid 70's version of digital sound? As to the wheel center caps, mine too are painted to match the wheels (white), though I've been toying with replacing them with black/gold as in one of your shots. Still on the fence with that, though. Otherwise, your ride looks fabulous! Tell us more.... |
I think I know what that dial is at the factory location. I had one in my 82 930's glovebox.
|
I would just d/c the lettering and you're good to go!
|
I would find out how it was originally built by Kremer ( if indeed it was) and remove all the dooda stuff that was added since. Then it will be a more valued 930. Lots of other neat drivers out there with upgrades done by others. The custom Porsche's built by Kremer, DP Motorsports, Alan Johnson Racing, Andial, RUF Etc, were developed back then ( at great expense for those who wanted a special 930 ) as an alternative to the pedestrian ones you could get at the Porsche dealer. Therefore I would put it back to original and enjoy it as such. My 2cents.
The only thing I would consider ( you indicate it is not as fast as it looks) for your satisfaction, would be to add more performance with parts offered by Kremer if they were available from them when the car was built. I'm sure there are those who would gladly trade ( with a sweetheart deal ) your historically correct Kremer with another 930 if you wanted something else later. Simply put it is not original if not as Kremer built it. |

Neat car. I have a very similar 81 Kremer 930. Were you able to speak with anyone who has knowledge about production #'s etc? How many made, at what cost? I have contacted Kremer, but the paper trail from the 80's is terrible, and the only thing that could be confirmed is that it's a Kremer car, but that was about it.
Is your car a 3.0L Turbo? I would keep the car as original as possible, the lettering on the back looks bogus, but my car has similar lettering on the back, with the "K" on the frunk as well. Very cool color, very cool car! Just my 2Cents. |
I think the Bosch part may be a proximity sensor for an alarm or maybe part of a radar detection system. Do you have any more pictures of the control panel where the stereo would normally be mounted?
I found the sensor. http://www.thesamba.com/vw//forum/album_page.php?pic_id=602077 Quote:

I think to be historically correct to drive that car you need to have starred in a 70's porn movie, or at a minimum grow a Tom Sellick mustache .... :-)
Not my cup of tea but looks like a fun project |

Since both Manfred and Erwin kremer have passed, information may be more difficult to obtain for the cars they produced for customers for street use. Recently I did get additional info on the 1984 Kremer I have, however it was obtained from a German Porsche affectionado who had spent time at the Kremer shop over the years. Regarding my previous post, Kremer GMBH is a highly respected builder especially in Germany. My experience from info I have been privy to is, the cars they built are most desirable to the folks over there if kept or returned to as they were originally built. Others on this forum in past posts have info on Kremer cars if you search. |
I am sure that the information will come the longer I have the car.... I just love the paint/stripe schemes from this period, even though the cars are older than I am. They are very retro-cool to me.
I would love to get my hands on the correct bumpers for my car, but i have had no such luck as of yet... |

Humm, a tribute car ?? |

Have you tried DP Motorsports as I believe they produced the kevlar parts for Kremer cars. My Kremer needed a new front bumper from scraping over speed bumps and was replaced rather than repaired around 10 years ago. |
Do they have a facility in the US? DP Motorsports that is.

Well that explains that. Thanks! What looks to be the control units for this thing are mounted on the smugglers box lid. Right next to the monster stereo amp. The car does indeed have the extra keyhole in front of the driver's door exterior handle. If only I had a key lol. Where the radio would normally go is the cleanest install of a cb radio I think I've ever seen. Complete with telephone-style handset! http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...2/IMG_2680.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...2/IMG_2684.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...2/IMG_2710.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...2/IMG_2707.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20.../kremer012.jpg |
How neat is that, wow. I like it when I come on and find posts such as these.
Charming color and livery. ^___^ |

I'm told that the car lived in the Boise, Idaho area for almost all of it's life. About a year ago, a Seattle area collector bought this car and a vintage 'caddy as a package from their aging/elderly owner in order to get the best deal possible on the 'caddy. He meant to flip the 930 Kremer asap and yours truly was the 1st to take the bait for better or worse heh-heh. I have no way to verify if the 39k miles on the odo are accurate. One would have to assume that this is not the original speedo unit since a German market car would be in kilos. All I can say is the overall condition of the car seems to more or less jive with this reading. The engine is very dry and runs well. But who knows or can say for certain. I towed it to a friend's shop last year. We've futzed about with it in our spare time after hours with a beer or 2 mixed in. In summary... ~New rear wheel bearings, all of them. What a bee-yatch! ~Repacked, resealed front hubs. ~New rear discs/pads. Fronts look like new or close to it. ~New braided brake lines, all 4. ~New master cylinder. ~Brake fluid flush. ~New valve cover gaskets and valve lash adjustment. Checked for broken head studs and got lucky whew! ~New (rebuilt) adjustable wur valve from Brian L. ~New fuel pumps. ~New Bosch platinums. ~Fresh Kendall 20/50, new o/f and freshly scrubbed sump screen. ~New oil pressure gauge sending unit. That sucked to change. ~Fresh Swepco in the gearbox. ~New Michelin TB15 tyres from Longstone in UK. $$$ :( ~Threw away wheel locks which had no key anyway. Hate those so much! ~Replaced missing front Fuchs centercaps and had them painted to match the rears. Thats happening right now actually. ~New front glass. It was original as far as I could tell and not bad, but I wanted a new one. This car came with an electrically heated front glass when new which is of course nla. I made it my life's mission to come up with something and found an outfit in UK that had a batch made up years ago. I ordered 1 which took months and an obscene amount of $$$ to make it arrive. Its an updated part that has way more wires in the glass and operates on a fraction of the juice as the original. Works like a champ though hah! ~New wiper blades. ~New frunk hold-up struts. ~New electrical portion of the ignition switch installed. The mechanical portion was failing as well so I bought a new one. But in end it made more sense to repair the original one and make fresh new keys so as not to rekey the whole car. Works like new again thanks to the old skool locksmith guy we have in the area. ~Rear wiper delete with the blank off plug from the dealer. Yes I saved the pos in a box lol. ~New Momo Prototipo wheel with 1/2" spacer from our host. The oe unit is ok however the stitching is letting go. Saved it as well, natch. ~Emission exhaust port plugs coming so I can remove the air injection rail. All of the other smog stuff was long gone before my time. Still yet to do is get the horn, turn signals, exterior lights, etc., all sorted out and working proper. Another local guy is going to tackle that for me and then she's off to the bodyman. Good times  http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20.../kremer035.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...2/IMG_2664.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...2/IMG_2665.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...2/IMG_2666.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...2/IMG_2668.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...2/IMG_2669.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...2/IMG_2670.jpg |

I recall this very car being for sale, congratulations Kie on the purchase of this time capsule.
I have the same seats in my ride. Some reference ...from my archives Used to work at 20th Century Fox in Century City and ran into Eddie Murphy driving this exact car. http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...99/dp935-1.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...ges99/dp-4.jpg |
Hey Kie,
Well you always seemed to like the "off in left field" stuff, so congratulations. You will never drive down the road and see another one just like it! Do you still have the "wrong" Lambo? I'm assuming the Gamma is DTR, as I thought I had seen it listed as sold a very long time ago. Mark |

I've only ever had 1 Lambo so surely you mean the LP400S2 I tracked down and bought at a pawn shop. Rub it in why don't you! I was committed to restoring it to factory new and back to it's original silver (argento) color. peeps from Italy, the midwest, etc., kept bugging me though so now a cool guy in Kansas is taking it back to perfection. My #1 largest regret of all the wacked out cars I have owned :( Countach barn find story - FerrariChat.com http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/att...1&d=1205437975 http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/att...1&d=1205438034 http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/att...1&d=1205357978 http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/att...1&d=1205357961 http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/att...1&d=1205262383 http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...o/IMG_0859.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...o/IMG_0858.jpg |
Yep...that would be the one.
We all looked at it {languishing in the semi indoors}, when you took me over to see the Vette collection, right after the 930 swap. I recall the mechanic saying something alone the lines of "it would be a great car, if we could just get it to run for more than 20 minutes without it either breaking down or overheating". When I heard that you had picked it up, I thought to myself.... Oh nooooo...... nothing ever any good, comes from owning a condition challenged Lambo. Mark |

And, respectfully, I must disagree with the notion that owning a "needs everything" lambo can only yield bad results SmileWavy |
closer to done, 2 years in
resurrection alert!
Hey guys I'm getting closer to actually driving this thing. Akers Porsche has been doing some final sorting and then its off to the bodyshop for some touchup and a frt bumper repair/respray. Going to blacken the headlight area and fab up some plexi covers. Question. Is this info on 1000sel.com accurate? 10 Ways to do Porsche 911 tuning "This is a Kremer 935 Street-Turbo (or Kremer 935 Group 5 Street). It looks like a DP Motorsport Porsche because it almost is: Kremer-Porsche was the private Porsche racing team that gave DP's Ekkehard Zimmermann the order to make a new body for the 935 Porsches in the 1970's. This street-version based on a regular Porsche 930 Turbo also used a bodykit similar to the one DP Motorsport street-cars used. Accept for the racy looks with slanted nose and widebody fenders the Kremer 935 Group 5 Street had a 360BHP or 390BHP engine." This white car is the one they are referring to. Looks very close to mine although I have normal flag mirrors: http://www.1000sel.com/images/00-art...eet-935-01.jpg And some more of mine. I would paint to match the rears. I would ditch the Kremer Street on the rockers. Its period correct but really dates the look. Keep the Bosch rain sensor. I LOVE THE STEREO but I would get rid of the A/C venting. And those seats......ohh my. So much want. Mind if I ask which body shop you chose? |
Quote:
You would paint what to match the rears? *edit* I did indeed paint the front center caps to match the rears. I hate the "Kremer Street" decals also. 'prolly going to remove, yah. I'm not changing anything else. For the body work its looking like Mark Israel at EuroTech Bodywerkes in Kirkland is the guy. Kie,
I remember when that car was posted for sale by "kt911rs" here on Pelican and on the Harold's DP /Kremer site I think. I went after it and was told there was a deal working. Congrats to you for the score! Very cool car. There was a Kremer distributor here in the states many years ago. I found out about this during a trip to Germany where Kremer was one of the places I visited. Although long gone, the distributor was located in Atlanta. Back to your car.. I would go with the clear covers on the headlights as well. In some states, police will pull you over for the yellow (French) headlights. Regarding the center caps, another option would be those with the crest embedded into the cap. You can remove the crest, paint the caps then reinstall/epoxy the crest. Think I too would remove the "Kremer Street" decals Lastly, I posted pics of your car to this thread: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/674560-post-pics-dp-kremer-street-cars-turbo-non.html?highlight=kremer Good luck with the sprucing-up and enjoy that car! |
dude... TITS!
what a cool car - good for you esp funkalicious discotastic stereo! those Recaros in green w/ the leather outer bolster... amazing agreed on clear covers and ditching the lame "K/S" graphics... the rest... just awesome. Great story. Of course, then spent me a chunk of time then surfing thru yer Counny thread. WTF good sir! Damn, screw lotto you keep trippin over yer deek into some uberness. Nice! |
Hi, Kie, not sure if you remember but we spoke for awhile a few years back in front of Vivace. I was in a Pacific blue Euro 930
I had to comment after seeing you seats. My 930 had the same ones only in black leather. I don't think they lasted a month. IIRC I sold them on CL for $150 (I had no idea what they were worth) and replaced them with some sport seats. Those things easily weighed 50# each. Yours are another story though, that green interior is pretty discocool. Thanks for sharing. That's an amazing piece of Porsche history. Enjoy |
Personally I would leave it exactly as I found it, including the KS decals.
Great car and I love the fact that it looks exactly as it did 30 years ago. :) |
