1st Engine Drop

Hi Guys

Here is my step by step engine drop. My main reason for doing the engine drop is to get my third gear grind fixed. Mark Henry is going to do the tranny rebuild for me.
I will be fixing all the annoying leaks, do a valve adjustment, and general engine bay cleanup. I also plan on powder coating the alternator housing/fan, and valve covers.

I have already pulled the rear bumper, rear valance, and exhaust. I removed the ac
compressor, ac radiator core. The line are still in place. I plan on removing the complete system. Wonder what sort of weight saving I'll realize.

Battery removed for winter.

I had my engine in and out about 15 times last week to test fit everything. Once you get it unhooked from everything it's real easy to drop. I am using a cart to roll my engine and trans around on and just picking the car up with my lift though.

I think I have the same headers and exhaust except single tip. How's it sound? I haven't heard my car run yet?

jpilcher 04-07-2013 04:31 PM

My muffler and headers are Powerhaus. It has a nice throaty sound not too load. I have been on abit of a spending spree. Buying lots of tools. I plan on using an ATV lift to drop the motor, onto a cart. Did you build a cradle to support the motor on the jack? Any idea how much clearance I will need from floor to underside of rear reflector? I have heard 30" clearance.

Thanks Merlin

Mine is a powerhaus single out, I was trying to figure out who made my headers, but after looking at yours, I know.

good luck with your work, it's not too hard, just take your time and look for connections that you may have missed while lowering the engine.

Looks good.

I know it is hard to judge from pictures, but the oil looks really dark, old

I run vr-1 and change it often. Maybe only a couple of thousand miles or about six months, whichever is first. So far that has been time.
So it basically looks new when I drain it.

Oil was changed in the fall before I put the car away. It's LiquiMoly 10W60 RaceTech.

Hey Merlin

How high are you jacking the car to clear the motor? I have heard 30" from floor
to rear reflector?

Plan on attacking the underside of motor disconnects tonight.

Hey Guys

Here is my next installment of my engine drop. I figure if I spend a couple of hours a night it should be ready to drop by the weekend.

Tonight I am tackling the underside stuff.

Here is a list of the things I got done tonight.

1. Taped and labeled all the oil lines that I removed on Sunday.
2. Removed the transmission ground strap.
3. Removed the backup light wires. They were in rough shape. Connector busted up.
4. Removed the sway bar, and end links.
5. Removed the heat exchanger hoses.
6. Removed starter wires.
7. Pulled the throttle linkage.
8. Had a look at the CV bolts. They look in rough shape. Gave them a blast with
PB Blaster, going to let them soak overnight. Driver side boot has a tear, and needs replacing. Going to pull both and regrease and replace the boots.

Tommorrow night, clutch cable, omega spring, helper spring, and half shafts.
