930 tires

I have a set of Bridgestone Potenza tires off my 1987 930. Stock sizes.

Tires are 11 years old (Date stamp 2002) with less than 3k miles on them. Tires look new.

If any one is in need of them make offer.

Rick

tires for sale 930 16 inch

I know I know.

The 245 50 16 are hard to find and I could bring myself to throw these new, but old in years tires away.

Thought someone could use on garage queen, show car or?

There is zero sign of wear, cracks, deterioration etc...

not to hijack, but it killed me throwing away practically unused Pirelli PZero Nero's that were 7 years old. If I had a set of wheels to mount them on, they would have been good for storing the car on, but on track a total no.

Old dry rot tires, no thanks. Best thing to do is get a set of new RE11s and don't look back. Don't feel bad I've had to throw away an old set of 19" Sport Cups before, now that sucks!

My old slant came with a "new" (in2005) set of Michelins, they were junk.

No, no landfill - recycle them = it'll cost you though or use them as a table base...

If they are not dry rotted and cracking they would still work ok for a street car grocery getter that isn't driven much over the speed limits or around corners real fast, but they're not good for anything else.

Spray some Lexol vinylex or something similar on the sidewalls to help preserve the surface rubber.

15” wide low profile high speed rating tyres are getting near impossible to find in Europe. For my 1977 tarmac rally spec 3.3 RS, I was running Yokohama AO22 all weather tyres but these are no longer available. I managed to find a spare new set of the 225/50 x 15” for the front but cannot get any of the 245/45 x 15 for the back. I am using 8” front and 9” rear Minilite magnesium wheels. I am currently having to run the very expensive and shallow tread Michelin TB15 23/62 x 15 tyres (approx 270/45). These are over £388 ($650) each! Anyone got any other ideas? Scrutineers on historic rallies can be difficult over fitting 16” wheels to a ’77 non-turbo car. Wilson

Sorry all.

The build date code on these tires are 2005 fronts March and rears October.

245 45 16
205 50 16

Bridgestone Potenza RE750

No cracks, no wear, no dry rot. Not even hairline cracks.

CA car stored inside and driven like a garage queen.

The 2002 tires were off my Targa and are now in the land fill. Sorry again for the confusion.

I bought a complete set of front and rears a year or so ago, and put them in those vacuum bags to pull all the air out, and stored inside the house (good thing, or they would now be nothing more than an oil slick). If you keep tires away from oxygen, sunlight, ozone and other nasty air borne contaminants, supposedly they will age a lot slower in storage. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.....

Thanks for the suggestion. When I went down to collect my most recent set of Michelin TB15’s at close to £800 for the pair, I did mention those tyres as they come with over double the tread depth compared with the TB15’s and Vintage Tyres do sell them. “Not at all sure they would be suitable. Unless someone else has tried them on a quick 911 for rallying, we would be very wary” was the reply. On further discussion, it was felt that although they might be OK in the wet, they were not sure the tread would be stable enough in the dry. I would be very interested to know if anyone is actually using these tyres and particularly if they have done any track work with them, as that gives a very clear idea of their stability.

MXW tyres on rear of 911

I have been in contact with Michelin Classic. They say that the 255/45 x 15 MXW tyres would fit on my 15 x 9” wheels but they are designed to balance with 195/50 x 15 tyres on the front of an Alpine V6 Turbo. I got the strong vibrations that Michelin felt they would not do much for the handling, balance and stability on a rally 911, so another idea bites the dust.

Michelin’s recommendation is to go to 16” wheels and use 245/45 ZR16’s which they make in MXX3 with Porsche N2 homologation. Other makes are available as well, Bridgestone etc. The overall diameter is only 10mm greater at 635mm than my current 23/62 R15 TB15’s. Obviously I would have to get new wheels but Minilite no longer make 16” wheels.

Me again. Excellent news for me. Minilite are now making 9 x 16” wheels again. All I need to do is to read the job number of the back of my existing 9 x 15” wheels and they can look up the offset I had on that set. Nice to get some good news for a change.

I know it is ill advised but I ran some 15 year old Continentals when I swapped the original Fuchs back onto my car. They were obviously not very sticky but because of that it was a good way to learn how the 930 chassis reacts at the limit and the limits were fairly low because of the old, hard tires. As long as you aren't doing top speed runs the risks are pretty low.

I've always been the type to run tires until I can see the air in them but your mileage may vary.

Before going the 16inch wheel route, you should consider the 2 following options:
Toyo R888 in 215/50-15 and 235/50/15 (homologated for road use)
I am using them on 8&9fuchs wheel and they fit perfectly (the 235/50-15 has been designed for 9inch wide wheels)

You can also use avon CR6ZZ in 215/60-15 front and 225/60-15 rear
The latter size is a new addition to the CR6ZZ range (Avon also offers a 225/65-15 but is really too tall for a911) and goes very well on a 9inch wide wheel too

Both tires are really grippy and performance oriented
