Alternator problem , so I thought

first my warning light was glowing very deem , so replaced the voltage reg, no change, so i replaced the alternator, no change , then my battery went to hell, so I thought the Bosch alternator was bad, so ordered a replacement, same thing, then i checked the diode at the warning light, nothing, sometimes it charges sometimes it doesn't. whats going on here,

Have you had the battery load tested?

Check your chassis grounds at the battery and the engine.

Two alternators, one voltage regulator, two batteries, a veritable mint in replacement parts. Wouldn't that just about frost your ass if it was just a cheapo diode doing the sporadic funky chicken? Weird, though, usually electronic type things give up the ghost only once and they're done.
You said you checked the diode....how? Ohm meter, looking for continuity one way and none when the polarity is reversed?

Asked me how I knew it. Lessons learned... be glad it didn't cook the engine harness.

Enjoy it!

heliolps2, you might want to have the charging circuit tested just to make sure nothing was damaged on the alternator when it was running with an intermittent open circuit between itself and the battery.

Some auto parts stores (AutoZone, O'Reilley, etc.) offer to test the charging system of the car. All the unit does is put various loads on the circuit and checks to see if the alternator responds appropriately.
