Der Phoenix.....Going forward

OK kids, a few much wanted pictures. Took a hot spin (100 outside) up to the lakes and shot a few picts on the side of the road. Kinda smokey outside due to the multiple fires burning all over the state.

Gotta do some tuning....she doesn't run clean until nice and warmed up and above 3500 rpms. Almost like I'm not getting any vacuum timing advance and relying solely on mechanical advance once the rpms get up there. Also suggestive of mixture being off but I have no way of testing at the moment. Need to dick around with the mixture screw, judiciously of course. Idles rock solid at 1000 and starts immediately. Boost gauge says she's maxing out at .6 bar (seat of the pants says that's probably true). Lots of stuff to investigate, being this is pretty stock with all the stock chit to cause issues. Other than that, she's a blast to drive and handles very well.

Der Pelican?

Hahahahahahaaa... I'll go with that it's 5:32a.m. there your time... yeah... that's it! 8-)

That the same stretch you've posted pics / vids on in the past? Looks familiar. And lol @ the fire extinguisher comment - ha!

It's kinda poetic in a way that you're starting literally back @ square one and needing to baseline everything from scratch. Perfect! Will allow you to establish a great bond w/ your car too.

Them H5s were pretty milky... try the rice trick? Or plenty of other methods of swabbing the back to their deserved clarity - really spruces the car up in process too.

Gaaaaa, them gauge surrounds hurt my eyes 8-).

Sososo great to hear and see you back in a 930 there, Chiefy! Start boltin on some of yer survivor stash bits, jah?

Still wishing I'd swapped that Wevo into my car whilst in PA the other week... maybe you'd not have noticed! Ah well...

Enjoy the WOT miles!

She looks so pretty. But then again, I always love GP cars.
If it ran perfect, you'd be bored. Plus, how would you learn anything new to post to this forum? We'd no longer have a use for you... Hahaha
Drive it like you stole it man!!!

Looks real nice Mark. All the body seams line up perfectly and the paint looks good. You got a nice Wevo shifter in there and a dead pedal too.. nice!
I put the same rennline gauge surrounds in my car because some of the original ones were in bad shape. I lightly sanded them with 320 grit sandpaper and sprayed them with several coats of satin black paint first and they look real nice that way. Then glued them on with dabs of black silicone glue so they stay on.
Your glove box door isn't warped either! The car was probably garaged.
Wish we had some scenery and roads like that around here...
Take care.

Great to see you in another 930 Mark. If I ever in your neck of the woods, I will dropped by to say hi. Love the fire extinguisher also but I don't think it would be big enough. LOL

So good to see the car out on the road being driven. Enjoy it, and keep us posted on your progress in sorting out the little nits.

The fire bottle came with the car (as it was prepared for track days by the PO). I left it in there because no 930 should be without...but especially this one

I have a Brey Krause mount for it too, but it interferes with the seat slider release handle. Otherwise it would have also stayed with the car.

Thanks everyone! Yeah, the fire extinguisher needs a mount, but for now it just rattles around on the floor (guess I could at least stuff it behind the seats). The Wevo shifter is really nice....me likey! Need to adjust the clutch throw just a little bit, not getting quite as much disengagement as I would like. The gauge bezzels I can live with for now.

The seats are not fully powered as were my crispy critter....up/down/tilt yes, but forward and back are via these funky lever release things instead of powered. Maybe they came out of an earlier car.

Still gotta sort out the oil pressure gauge (reads zero with key off, reads almost 4 bar with key on and car not running, and will exceed 4 (almost to 5) with some healthy rpms). Sender or gauge, gauge or sender...

I haven't really even poked around in the engine bay yet, but did see one of those ignition advance delay relay thingies tucked up under the left side of the IC....with a hose hanging there and no home. Hmmm....gotta sort out the serious lack of power low down. I don't even have a timing light anymore, so I'll probably have to hold off a bit before I can do any serious diagnostics. Hope to have my garage/shop/house liveable within a month from now.

And yeah, the road I was on - I have posted videos there in the past. Any Washington state "coasties" listening in here probably are familiar with Sun Lakes (this is where people come to dry out, get a sun tan and skin cancer, and motor around on the lakes....or just drink beer). One hot mo'fo yesterday, though. Used to ride my Harley there as well and hit 120 F with the heat coming off the roadside cliffs. The AC fan doesn't blow on the 930 (one more thing to look at...but then I didn't have AC in my other one either).

Speaking of that, how about some ideas for personalized plates? 930fenix, 930phnx, phnxrzn.....any thoughts?

And how about a great big gaudy stencil like this on the back window????

Mark, given yer recent vehicular history, I suggest that you not fool around with that mini-beef fire extinguisher and trailer one of these around behind you, instead!

Great to see the 930 in its new surroundings and great to see you are getting into the (sometimes) quirky 930 musings.

Best of Luck getting the balance of your property put back to proper condition.

The key is, you were safe, the balance of the BS is only material, you will get to relive it again. May the Phoenix renew from what was yore!
