Wastegate spring and EBC setup.

Hi all

I`ve got a Megasquirt 3 pro on the way and got fuelrails etc from GSF yesterday and lot of ordering of parts for a full EFI. The fun part of it all

I don`t understand the wastegate EBC setup. I am installing a 1 bar spring for the wastegate and the question is, will that then be where boost will be cut? Do i need a separate ebc on top of that? The MS has boost control so a solenoid is probably easy to add.

I tried to read up on it but didn`t find anything really relevant.

Also happy holidays those celebrating

I can't address the MS but an EBC (whether it's integrated into the MS or a stand alone) will allow you to run boost higher than the 1 bar spring by venting the signal pressure to the WG so it stays closed until the EBC setpoint is reached whether it's 1.25 or 1.5 bar. You will not be able to run the boost at a setting less than the spring pressure though. The EBC will allow you to set the boost from a range of the spring pressure up to whatever limit you want. For example with a 0.5 bar spring then you could limit the boost to say 0.6 bar in a gear and then also have an upper boost limit of 1.25 bar.

On a regular 930, does the wastegate work as a manual boost control? If it does then i understand how adding a EBC affects the wastegate function. I was going to install a 1 bar WG spring along with my other installs but that will now be unnecessary when adding a EBC.

Confusing stuff

You do not need an EBC, because the MS3Pro does everything an EBC does and more. All you need is a solenoid for it to control. Most 930s i've seen run straight wastegate spring pressure with no boost controller.

Sure but does that hook up on the wastegate feed line then?

There are several ways to hook up the solenoid. All of them go between the pressure fitting and the wastegate.
Mine is setup somewhat like this

Depending on the amount of boost you are wanting to see determines the spring rate. If you keep a .5 bar spring in and run the solenoid you will only get 1.1-1.2 as the system pressure will overpower the spring tension/rate. This is also dependent on the turbo you are running. I would go with the .5 for a new system and get your feet wet then move on from there. Good luck with your efi build.
