And just out of curiosity I looked at Haggerty today for the first time. No way in hell any of these cars are selling for their prices.
The #3 rating was at $137,000.00. What a joke.

did you install, or have you tried installing the heater boxes after installing or without removing the headers? I only need heat about 4mos a year so I don't want to leave them on all year. Ideally as posted previously, I'll prob just run a flex pipe thru the headers for simplicity and ease of removal, and sell the heater boxes.

I put them on as a unit, so I'm not positive, but my guess you could install them with the headers on. Brian could tell you for sure whether that could be done, but I don't see the purpose of removing them once they're on.

It sure seems like that must be Hagerty's motivation for the absolutely ridiculous valuations stats (which have been nonsense since the start of the "price increase wave" of these cars). When this has been suggested in the past, some people point out that Hagerty is hurting themselves by paying out for over insured vehicles, but maybe they do so little paying out, that there is not much risk there for them?

Excellence's evaluations are just as bad, butt maybe they get their info from Hagerty?

They are so much more expensive than Grundy's is, and I'm sure the actuarials are the same, so yeah, Hagerty makes a killing on agreed value classic car insurance.

Speaking of expensive, Hagerty was more than double the cost of American Collector's when I checked last year. I'm going to shop around some more, though, as AC is very expensive, too (will check Grundy, thanks).

Never heard a bad word about Grundy's around here, but as with most of these cars and insurance, there isn't a lot of data for actual claims.

Yeah I had someone tell me that once. Then I asked him to tell me with a straight face that Hagerty does it because they lose money doing it. I can guarantee that they do not lose money doing it, if they did, they wouldn't do it. They do pay their claims. True story - My friend completed a 2+ year 1.5 resto on a '67 E type roadster. new sills, floor pans, etc, complete mechanical, bare metal PPG, etc, etc. no bondo, all lead in the seams, absolutely drop dead gorgeous car, he is an absolute artist. He had it on the road for one month and because of a senior moment ended up with a BIG dent and crease in the hood or "bonnet" in Brit speak. It buckled the bonnet and bent the front subframe. The same incident destroyed
his tool chest and pushed in the wall of his bathroom some. As you can imagine he was sick for a few days. Anyway Hagerty paid the $10k+ claim to have it repaired at a very high end shop and they did a superb job, a lot of old school metal work with the dollys, shrinking disc, etc, no lead or bondo, you cannot tell today. No hassle whatsoever and they even gave him four free ticks to the Vintage w/e at the Glen and he gave me two ticks. Not sure if they covered the shrink's bills though...

I will say this again, and no one has ever replied, if Hagerty's valuations are self serving, then why haven't they done it across the board to all collector cars? They haven't.

On the other hand they were the only people that would insure my car because I live in a high rise condo with a parking garage. So anyone with access to the garage could access my car. Even though the access is key fobbed and 24x7 video and physically monitored. Leland West who I previously insure with not only refused to insure me in the high rise but actually hung up on me.
