Ruf CTR 2017 - 710hp, 649lb torque

Pictures at the bottom....

First RUF sports car, which is completely designed and manufactured by RUF
First carbon fiber monocoque for the RUF rear-engine concept
Biturbo box engine with a displacement of 3.6 liters
522 kW of power (710 hp) and 880 Nm (649 lb-ft) of maximum torque
Rear-wheel drive via stern engine and six-speed manual gearbox
Maximum speed over 360 km / h
Acceleration 0-100 km / h in under 3.5 seconds (0-200 km / h in under 9 seconds)

The world-famous RUF sports car manufacturer, who is celebrated for its outstanding technical solutions, presents the first member of a newly conceived high-tech generation at the 87th Geneva Motor Show: the RUF CTR 2017. For the first time, the superior two-seater is based on one RUF designed and manufactured carbon fiber monocoque; The CTR is the first RUF biturbo coupé that brought the world of super sports cars to the marvelous enthusiasm 30 years ago.

"I really thought about the concept for the 2017 CTR for a long, long time," remembers Alois Ruf, President and owner of RUF Automobile GmbH. "The first automobile we have ever conceived and produced marks a very special section in our company history. His presentation for the 30th anniversary of the celebrated Yellow Bird is the perfect moment. "

New chapter in our story of David and Goliath

The fourth generation of super sports cars from RUF is a tribute to the Yellow Bird, the RUF CTR from 1987. In form and performance, in technical superiority and perfect function, it follows the ideal of the first CTR without breakage or fugue. The phenomenal power-to-weight ratio of just 1.6 kilograms per horsepower, the first custom carbon monocoque for our sophisticated rear-end engine concept and the seemingly unlimited power-producing six-cylinder are the main components that make the CTR 2017 unrivaled Sparkling jewelery of automotive craftsmanship.

The design of the CTR 2017 follows the guidelines set by the first Yellowbird: uncompromising aerodynamic efficiency through the development of the shape in the wind tunnel. The streamlined silhouette, the narrow bodywork body, the rear air intakes and even the instrumentation, are a great reflection of the first design. With one difference, the CTR 2017's wind-slipped body does not consist either of sheet steel or of aluminum, but of the formula 1 material carbon fiber.

The footprint of the CTR 2017 complies with the high-performance concept: Forged 19-inch aluminum rims bear on the front wheels tires of the dimension 245/35 ZR 19 and on the drive axle 305/30 ZR 19.

Powerful, tried and tested, but thoroughly up-to-date

The technical perfection of the CTR 2017 is already evident in the Carbonfiber body. For the first time the carrying chassiselement is also a carbon monocoque developed and manufactured at RUF. The axle support and the crash structure of the front vehicle are made of high-strength steel pipes, which, like the integrated safety cage of the CTR 2017, optimally protect the occupants due to their extremely stable structure. A similar construction made of steel pipes and the full-milled light-metal carriers takes up the drive train in the rear. The high safety reserves of the supersporters do not go hand in hand with the know-how gained over decades, with additional weight: The CTR 2017 weighs only 1200 kilograms dry.

As with most of the noble RUF coupés, the CTR 2017 also incorporates the rear-engine concept. The flat six-cylinder box engine with its 3.6 liters displacement corresponds to a direct further development of the power package in the rear of the Yellowbird. In the new CTR, for example, a dry-sump lubrication from the racing sector is used, which by its high throughput, even under the brutal centrifugal forces, does not only optimally supply all the moving parts in the engine in very fast, The rated power of this power pack is 6750 / min at 522 kW (710 hp); The maximum torque is already at 2750 rpm and is not less than 880 Nm (649 lb-ft).

The range, which is exemplary for a sports engine, between the torque peak and the maximum power, promises a new quality of the car's superstructure, especially in normal road applications. From the stand n is less than 3.5 seconds already 100 km / h at; The 200 km / h margin is reached in less than 9 seconds. The top speed is more than 360 km / h.

The Yellow Bird's role model also applies to the transmission: it has been completely redesigned at RUF and has six gears, which are switched by hand. For us at RUF, this is the most harmonious way to enjoy the new CTR behind the steering wheel. The final drive is via a differential lock.

"Five years ago, we started designing the breathtaking variant of a super-sports car," explains Estonia Ruf. "We reduced all other digitally-controlled functions and combined the fascinatingly original, unadulterated style of driving with a remarkably low power weight, a manual transmission and modern racing technology."

The new CTR 2017 has an excellent handling. The basic layout of the landing gear consists of single-wheel suspensions on each of the double cross-members, combined with spring-damper units mounted along the chassis, which are actuated via push bars (pushrods) as in Formula One. The internally ventilated, perforated ceramic brake discs correspond in their dimensions to the enormous forces which they have to restrain: At the front, hexagonal calipers and washers with a diameter of 380 millimeters are used, rear four-piston pliers and 350 mm washers. This braking system stands for maximum, low-fade delays.

Minimalism in the interior as an emblem of analog design

In the new CTR 2017, a reduced interior is the opposite of the often overloaded armature carriers in the digital age. Two seats and selected high-quality but super-light materials form the core of this almost unbelievable statement about analogue driving pleasure. The Alcantara covers promise not only aesthetic pleasure, but also light weight. In combination with the cockpit materials leather and carbon fiber, they form a wonderful balance between modern technology and an emotional retro perspective. The seats are also made of a carbon fiber composite, the perforated pedals of light metal. The three-spoke steering wheel is another element that combines the new CTR with racing history, as well as the analogue dials of the instruments with their green shimmering numbers.

The serial production of the new CTR will start at RUF in Pfaffenhausen in 2018. A limited edition of 30 copies is planned, which does not include the prototype shown here in Geneva for the first time.

A nickname becomes a legend

The first RUF CTR debuted in 1987. Built for an unrivaled top speed, the 469-horsepower coupe reached 339.8 km / h when measuring on the record track of Ehra Lessien. This event was organized by American Automagazine Road & Track. The second fastest vehicle was the newly introduced Porsche 959 with a top speed of 317 km / h. In the light haze of the north German lowland the yellow of the RUF CTR was unmistakable, and the editors of Road & Track missed the narrow coupé "Yellow Bird". What happened after that marked the name RUF as an unforgettable record in the history of sports cars. In the year of the record, the company received RUF in the US the approval of the US National Highway Transportation Safety Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency,

I LOVE this car, except for all of the alcantara. Maybe there is a leather option?

I don't understand why he didn't go to like a 4.X liter engine that revs to the sky?

Built something only 1% of us can do.

I am still wondering the price tag on this beauty. Sadly, these 30 cars will probably never be driven and sit in someones car collection.

That is my exact power and torque levels. It would be insane to have an updated car, still being rear engine ,and incredible suspension. Pucker factor would still be there but maybe more refined

I really adore this new CTR, but I cannot refrain from comparing these performances and his price with the new McLaren 720S, 0-100 km/h 2.9s and 0-200 km/h 7.8s!
The fact of not having of launch control handicaps him a lot and has t-elle 710 ch in wheels?

English engineering vs German engineering.

Enough said.....

If I had more money than sense I would buy this. In a heartbeat.

I wonder if they are rebuilt from existing chassis or if they are entirely new?

Doesn't matter - cool x infinity. I wish I could have one. In black. With blue/green tartan on the seats. Seriously.

- Chris.
