Yep that’s them Mark.
What I was not aware of is that they may have been changed. It’s possible that the originals had floating rotors as RDG has pointed out. Also explains why, when searching on pelican for front rotors for a 78 they have floating rotors for sale. |

I would guess at this point the the early rsr style car the wheels came off did not have turbo suspension and had grafted on turbo flares, this is why they fit on the early car, good news is you can remove that rear spacer and run a thinner one out back so its just the front you need to change.

Ok then, now that we are on the same page. So your car is an early year model, then yes somebody has updated the front hubs/rotor etc. to get away from the unobtainable floating rotor assemblies of the early cars.
As you can probably surmise, if you take material off of the front surface where the wheel mounts, that would move the inside of the wheel closer to the caliper and rotor, so you might end up with the same issue you now have on the rears, with the wheels hitting the caliper. Incidentally, removing material from the hubs wheel mount face is a REAL BAD idea. Unfortunately what you need, are front wheels with the correct offset....damn! Looking more and more like I am up shoit creek without a paddle. Unless I can find early hub assembly and use no spacer. |

Since the wheels are bolt together, I wonder how difficult and/or expensive it would be to get either new out or inner halves (possibly BBS?) that would work? Then could possibly sell the removed barrel portions in order to help offset cost?

I just realized that your wheels are 3 peice, so you do have the last option of swapping out the 3.5 or 4 in outters for 3 in or so, not sure who made the wheels but if the center drops into the front rim half vs the rim half sitting on top of the wheel center they may be Mirage Int 3 peice, call and speak to Jae lee, he built my wheels and is the only one who drops the center into the front wheel half, all the others ive seen put the front rim half on top of the wheel center. Should be 20 bolt bbs rim halfs.

Pics are small but after looking again i think your wheels have the outer on top on the wheel center, this is how lynsey racing (spelling) and the couple other people doing 3 peice fuchs did them. There still the BBS 20 bolt rim halfs.

Great thinking guys,
From what I have seen they appear to be Lindsey/DP Motorsport wheels. There is 20 bolts holding the 3 pieces together. ![]() ![]()

Yep, 17x9 & 17x11, was thinking about the OP front wheels and just changing the outters may make the wheels to narrow for the current tire size he has, my 17s have a 3.5 in outter and thats with a thinner then stock spacer, your looking at more like a 2.5 to 3in outter to make those fit, so switching from the what looks like a 4in + outter is going to make the wheels only 8in or less wide, your going to most likely need inners also or different size front tires. Best would be 3in outters and 6in inners but you should measure to make sure it will fit or you may end up rolling the fenders or something for the extra clearance needed.

Hi RDG,
Can you tell me where you would source the outer half rims from. Thanks Steve (sbk930). Car looks awesome. Last edited by SBK930; 01-20-2018 at 12:31 PM.. |

Well Jae @ Mirage builds his own wheel halfs there not BBS but are the same 20 bolt pattern. I think they are nicer then BBS, thats what i run.
Then theres lyndesy racing, they do in fact use BBS rim halfs and hardware, Classifieds section, ive seen them here, just have to wait and watch. Cant remember the name of another guy that was doing them but if you search you may come up with a name. On a side note thoses buttonhead screws dont look like wheel bolts, wheel bolts have a 12 point head and are a certain spec, id pull 1 and see if you can find a grade marker on them just to be safe before you ride them hard. All my info is old, i did the research and had these built 20+ years ago so things may have changed. |
