2.0 L S sixty seven deck height
Std it had .2mm base gaskets. With my new wisecos I have a .4mm base gasket in and have .6 mm deck height. I need to add another 2 x .4 mm base gaskets to get to 1.2mm. Is this normal. Ok ??? Or am i missing something.
I'm using the old head gaskets to come to this measurement?? Lyndon ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Lyndon302; 07-04-2020 at 01:03 AM.. |

With 2 x .5mm shims im getting .9mm deck height.
What's your opinon. Add a .25mm and get 1.15mm deck height or add another .5 and get 1.4mm deck height I'm a novice at these engines and would appreciate some advice Lyndon ![]() Last edited by Lyndon302; 07-04-2020 at 04:52 PM.. |

Which method did you use when you checked? Were the heads bolted down and the clearance checked with clay? If you checked as shown in the pic, you missed the step of torquing down the cylinder and your measurement is off.
The tightest that you could get away with is about 1.0mm under normal circumstances. |

I bolted the head on and torqued it. I used an old head gasket and new shims.I used 3mm solder

Did you use solder directly above the pin? If you put the put the solder on the upper and lower part of the cylinder, you'll have to average the two thicknesses to determine the correct measurement.
In any case, 1.0mm is about the minimum you should run. Did you happen to check it when you pulled it apart? Did you compare the pin height between the stock piston and the Wisecos? There are thicker base gaskets available if needed. |

Yep above the pin. On the lower part of the piston as per Wayne's book. Side by side these wisecos are about 1mm higher. Which makes sense needing to add shims.

You're putting the solder at the outer perimeter of the piston dome? I think the 2.0L 911 pistons don't have the horizontal shelf around the perimeter that is convenient for measuring deck height.
Edit - I see you just answered that in the last post. |

On a separate point, very nice, high dome pistons. I'd guess higher than stock compression ratio. Are you twin plugging? The 2.0L heads don't like high compression on street gas.

Wayne's Rebuild Book lists Competition Engineering's recommendation of 1.25 to 1.5mm for the deck height.
This can be found on Competition Engineering's webpage Easy Deck Height. They also offer thicker cylinder base shims so that your not staking as many shims together. The shims can be found on the New Parts 911 / 930 page. I believe stacking multiple shims could lead to an oil leak |

Just a single plug. We have pretty good fuel here in Australia. Fingers crossed.
