Two very specific questions regarding 2.4 engine install
Hey everybody,
I'm still working on my '73 2.4 restoration. I'm in the final steps before installing the engine. My first question is in regard to the harness routing to the starter and reverse switch. In the picture you can see the current situation. Why is there a gap in the engine tin and how is the harness supposed to be routed and fixed? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1692540587.JPG My second question is about the gap between the plastic air guide / cover and the oil cooler. Is this normal? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1692540587.JPG Thanks! |
First question: There's a rectangular rubber plug that goes on the harness. Ask Dennis (Timmy2) if he can get you one.
Second question: Here's a pic of how it should fit. Is that shroud aftermarket? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1692545454.jpg |
Thanks - that helps me a lot!
Do you or somebody else has the P/N for the rubber plug? I can't find it in the catalog. I'm located in Germany so I doubt Dennis will be able to help me. In regards to the second issue everything is original. Might be production tolerances on the oil cooler. I guess I will slot a piece of aluminum in between to get a proper fit. |
I found another pic with the shroud similar to yours. Might be "normal." To be honest, I've assembled quite a few of them and never paid much attention to the fit.

The square harness insulator is correct and the gap between the air duct and the cooler extension will close as you tighten it. Both a pretty flexible.

Thanks again- also to Henry!
I‘m still looking for the part number of the rubber block. Help would be appreciated. |
I use a little silicone sealer around the edges of the oil cooler tin and air shroud, just to make sure all the cooling air goes where it's supposed to go.
