Case seam damage
So I have some damage on the seam about 6 inches near the bottom oil pump cover.
its on the outer edge of the seam.. Raised up about less than 1mm. It appears its from people jacking up the car from the engine. 1. Do I get a flat metal block with sandpaper and just sand the edge down on both cases... If so what grit sand paper? should i also block the entire case with sand paper as well? or Do i leaven it alone?....thinking even though the seam got dented, both sides of the case dented together which would make me think they would fit back in together.? thanks |

I’m having difficulty visualizing from the description. I think a picture might help. Is the case apart? The mating surface must be flat.

![]() ![]() Or do I hammer it smooth .? .both halves have it. so If one side is up, the the other side of the case must be bent down since it probally happened with the case bolted from a jack. Just on the edge. Which has me wondering do I leave it alone and it will fit back like a puzzle. ? Last edited by JW2000; 01-18-2024 at 06:20 PM.. |

I would leave it alone as you’ll likely do more damage.
I would reassemble and seal with threebond, yamabond, because of the sealing qualities of the sealant and the thickness of the sealant would forgive the damage. Bruce |

Remove raised highspots. Sealer might fix scratches and lowspots, but high spots are not good.
A fine file and light pressure. A file is a marvelous tool, on a flat surface it does almost nothing, any raised part it will remove. What kind of case? A mag case would most likely need machine work in other places.

File the high spots off on both sides, and as others have mentioned, Yamabond, RPV or similar sealant you'll be fine. Don't use the factory Loctite sealant.
