Switch to carbs - O2 sensor
If a switch to carbs is made on a CIS engine, is the O2 sensor still used?

The Ox sensor feeds back information to the fuel injection system.
Carbs have no way to adjust to this feedback.

I guess that was my thinking. So, if I was sourcing SSI's or headers, I wouldn't need to worry about the bunge existing....

You can plug the O2 sensor bung. The other option (which is a good one IMO) is to buy and install a wide band O2 sensor in its place. use the resulting AFR to make sure your carbs are tuned properly over the entire rpm band. The existing narrowband sensor that your CIS uses will tell you lean or rich but not "how much" lean or rich. They are just not accurate outside a typical 14.7:1 AFR.

As Jamie says, having a provision for an O2 sensor can be helpful later. Not everyone welds Stainless steel either so adding it later can be a pain. But even an intention to tune with an )2 sensor need not be a dealbreaker as you can always clamp a sensor in the tailpipe for temporary tuning.
