3.0 Engine with two casting numbers
Hi,
One side of the case is 930.101.103.4R and the other is 930.101.104.4R. Is that normal, or is this the mating of two different cases? Thanks James |

One left, one right. Perfectly normal.

Excellent. Thanks. Is this a correct engine number; 160499423434. I searched for long time, in between the kids hiding, while playing hide-and go-seek.

He was using the engine for an open wheel autocross car. he reversed the ring gear and hung it off the end. Is this something I should be concerned about?

James
Are you saying this motor was used in a mid-engine configuration? Like the 914-6? What's to worry about that? Are you saying that he had front and rear engine mounts, and no mount for what would have been the rear of the transmission? Cantilevered transmission? Wondering if that overstressed the case? |

I have cross posted this. But here is what he sent me. I will be talking to him again:
Thanks for your interest. The case part numbers are shown in the listing >pictures: 930.101.103.4R and 930.101.104.4R. These cases came from my >auto-cross engine. I installed a 3.0 liter naturally aspirated Porsche engine >behind a TUI BH-3 Super V and ran it in SCCA Solo II B-Modified Class. BM at >the time allowed anything that had been legal in any SCCA Class which included >Formula 5000. That class allowed 5 liter American V-8s and 3 liter pretty much >anything else. After much head scratching, I bought an engine and trans from >PAR Porsche in Yonkers NY, reversed the ring gear and hung it off the end of the >TUI. I blew my first engine and had Bob Cusimano build me a second engine >complete with all of his big valves, twin plug heads, forged rods, Renntech >Pistons, crankfire ingition, Quaife differential, etc. These cases replaced the >original PAR case which came out of a 78 911 SC. A job change forced me to stop >racing and the powder plant and trany sat in my garage since about 1996. I >decided to part the whole thing out and the cases are the first thing to go. >The engine was a strong runner and was very competitive in its class. I won >many trophies and FTDs with it and it was a beast. It was running perfectly >when it went into the garage.> |
