Was thinking repainting my shroud as well, but has seen how ugly it is when paint peal off, so decided to do a "boat treatment" on the fiberglass shroud

Cleaned the shroud from all oil etc. Then started to rub with boat rubbing, then polished with red car polish to get a better color.

This is after all the treatment

Totle, that shroud looks like new. I'm going to have to give that a try. Kind of sounds like what Flat6pac's friend did with his.

Flieger I tried to send a picture using your hints, however I keep getting told that my file is too big even though I am only trying to send 1 picture. ???

How big is it? It needs to be less than 2MB, though it usually resizes it for me even if it is significantly more than that- maybe even double.

Just open it in microsoft picture viewer, edit picture, compress image for "documents", save as edited version, don't save changes to original, upload the edited version.

or you can email it to me and I can post it for you/email back.

Finished Product

I went the route of polishing compound and wax. It looks much better. I think that the parts cleaning tub had made the surface dull. Have a number of deeply worn grooves from the wiring, but there's not much to be done about that. So here's a photo of the finished product.

Great work. Much better than paint IMO.

Arrow Wrinkled

I found this picture from last year. It shows the wrinkle a little better in the light.

1962 356 Ruby Red acrylic urethane
10 years later no peeling, no staining from gas or oil, still looks great

imho easiest is to clean and use shoe past wax. Paint and urethane are different animals when dealing with gel or glass

thx

I received a wet sample from that pictured 356. Then I sent the sample into Sherwin Williams paint tech directly. Basically I have the paint formula for a custom color.

It's two thin coats of acrlyic urethane. No polishing and it's shot without generating any orange peel. You either have to know how to do this or be prepared to drive your paint guy nuts because he's going to tell you it can't be done.

In the process of bringing my shroud back to it's former glory and was wondering how your treatment held up after the install? Considering a boat will never be exposed to temperatures the engine shroud will be i'm wondering how resistant that stuff is?
cheers

I used the "2K in a can" high temp engine paint from Eastwood. Very happy with it.

My gelcoat was crazed. So sanding and polishing wasn't going to help. I just sanded to roughen the surface and sprayed per the instructions.

One year later still glossy.
