My records indicate the number eight seal hasn't changed (off the top of my head) since 1965...
There is an oversized pulley seal available, if that's what you mean... -Wayne

I've heard the same thing, that the seals used in the 2.X liter motors were somewhat thinner and that the 3.0L seal was a good upgrade. Maybe they've all been superceded, or, maybe it's myth...
Either way, use the SC seal

I have a new SC #8 o-ring that I bought for my 2.7 rebuild, but didnt use it. Free to someone who needs it.
