For $4-5000, I'd suggest an E30 ('87-91) BMW 3-series. My '89 325is has got 120K miles on it and the only thing that I've had to replace was the fuel pump. They are quick, fun to drive, and handle well. My A/C blows cold (Chico averages 90-110 in the summer) and everything else works as it should for a daily driver. Heck, I even track mine!
