I hear ya! I bought some pants at Eddie Bauer and tried one pair on and it fit great, so I bought two pairs of the same exact size, and i can't even get the other ones to zip up. So frustrating. Jeans are the same. You simply have to ignore the sizing labels and buy whatever fits.
