Umm... Are you sure about that?
I never remember which is righty and which is lefty. My method is to put the wrench on the pedal and ... Pedal. As in move the cranks foreword as if I were riding the bike. Obviously the bike has to be upside down or off of the ground.
I seem to recall that the thread direction is counterintuitive because it's not the rotation of the pedals that keep them in but the precession of the pedal threads in the crank. (Of course I'm not that smart - Sheldon Larson was however...)
