It is a helmholtz resonator and they are indeed closed on the end. I think we mean the same thing. They cancel out specific frequencies of sound.

This design is crazy interesting to me, given I was under the impression that an open exhaust only gives you 10hp. The dyno results here are impressive. 5lbs muffler giving near 17hp gains?!?! Were the gains combined with ECU tunes also? I will re-read as my first impression was that ECU tunes were not part of the recorded gains (i.e. gains were all muffler). Would be very interested in a volume comparison to say a dual out dansk sport.
