One of the other tasks I attacked was new spark plugs. The driver's side is real easy. The passenger's side is not hard except that the air filter has to come off. Off is easy, getting that thing back on is insane.

While I was doing the plugs I always check plug wires at the cap. Those were fine then I checked the coil. It is toast. It was leaking black goo. If I go to the Porsche dealer and get a new Bosch coil it is one made in Brazil and those are garbage. The one I had in there was maybe three years old and replaced the factory coil that was in there from 1985.

The tech pages all point to a aftermarket coil that is supposed to be great. The one problem is it is smaller in diameter. If you just tighten the coil bracket the bolt holes on the body will not align to allow it to fit. With some "special engineering" I managed to get some spacers in the bracket and get it all put back together.

Oh yea, The battery on the 911 died and it is 7 years old so it gets replaced.

I am SO GLAD I found the coil and battery problem now and not in one month in the land of Yankees in some state far from home. That is why I test and check everything before the trip.
