They wired it backwards then. The factory brown only wire is ground, and the brown with red stripe is positive. One consistent thing with my 911 is a brown wire is almost always a ground, red is usually +12V. I had to till look it up to verify but the brown wire was the negative as usual.
I really think the amp was put in sometime in the late 1980s or early 1990s. Certainly a few years before 1995 when I bought it. It was a typical stereo store hack job. I am just very thankful they did not have an alarm system but in. There are many pages on the technical site about removing an alarm system and the horrible damage done to the wires.
