Another +1 for this. A fun option you might consider if its up your family's alley is renting a westy vanagon for the trip around the olympics and staying in park campgrounds, this is how I have visited the last two times and it was great.
Other faves out that way are the Hoh rainforest, lake Crescent, and Hama Hama oyster on Hood canal.
