2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4X4 5.7L Hemi - Engine Swap Advice
Hi Gang,
I know there's a lot of technical/mechanical hands on this board who have all dabbled with other makes and models. So here's the skinny: My GF's niece foolishly bought (financed) the aforementioned Jeep with 104,000 miles and has had nothing but probs with it in the few months she's owned it. Now, I'm told it has a cracked cylinder. And of course she owes a ton on it. No warranty.
So to help her out, I'm looking to replace the engine for her: she provides the replacement, I will provide the labor. So she's looking around for something used or remanufactured. We have already found a few sources for the engine. So my question is, armed with an engine hoist (cherry picker), is there anything else I need to be prepared for? Or is this pretty straight forward...take lots of pics, keep track of all hardware, strip the old engine of its peripherals to reuse on the "new" engine...out and in. Is there a collection of specialty Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler tools that I will need?
I have not yet seen the car to make my own assessment. I'm just trying to keep myself from getting in over my head with a project I can't finish. I'm good with the wrenches, but not much experience with domestic stuff. I have been doing lots of research and found a few vids of people replacing the same engine in different platforms.
