What parts on a 996 GT3 can be used for air cooled motors

I'm noticing that some engine builders are using GT3 cranks, GT3 tit. rods, oil pumps for air cooled race motors. I also read that a 996 case can be modified for an air cooled engine by removing the oil return tube plugs along with other modification.

My question with respect to the case is what other modifications are necessary and whether it is cost effective?

Also, besides crank, rods, oil pumps what other parts from an early GT3 engine can be used for an air cooled motor build? For instance, can intermediate shaft or cylinders be used? other parts? I'm assuming that heads and pistons probably can't be used for an air cooled motor.
