I'm rebuilding my '87 Carrera 3.2L and am using only 997 GT3 parts internally:
997 GT3 crank
997 GT3 Pankl titanium rods
997 GT3 oil pump
997 GT3 intermediate shaft
Also I'm using a 997 GT3 4.0L exhaust
The early 996 GT3's were using 964 crank cases with the oil return holes plugged. In theory you can use a 997 GT3 case and drill holes for the oil return tubes. The cylinder bolts have the same spacing on 996/997 GT3's as for the 964/993 cases, so in theory the air cooled cylinders and heads should fit on a GT3 case.
Building an air cooled "GT3" (using my matching numbers 930 case and G50 gear box) is my goal. I'm also using GT3 gears, LSD, single mass LWF and clutch for my build.
