I'm seeing two different terms used which make a good point about perspectives. The OP called his car an asset. These cars are definitely assets. They cost a fair bit of money and what fool wouldn't want to protect the value of his asset. The fact it is an appreciating asset is just a bonus.
Others are talking about an investment. You want to invest in collector cars? Cool. Good for you. Air cooled 911s are penny stocks in the collector car world. Enjoy your hobby. Wax you car and take it to a show twice a year. And put the cover back on it. Different strokes for different folks.
I will never stop driving my cars because they are worth more than I paid for them. I insure them. I maintain them. I enjoy driving them. And I'm gonna go do that in a little bit here.
