So, what exactly is a 783? How does it differ from a M700?

Just a few years ago, a struggling Remington introduced their "798", or something like that. Touted it as a "true Mauser (M98) action". Turns out they were merely importing cheap junk from Yugoslavia and re-badging them as "Remington".

Let's not forget the horrible things they did to Marlin, either. Worst rifles "Marlin" has ever made, by a longshot.

Then there is Kenny Jarrett. He made bank modifying M700's and "accrurizing" them into his "bean field" rifles. He gave up on Remington quality and was forced to start making his own actions.

I sure hope Remington has recovered from those dark years. That would be really good news. Acquisition by The Leisure Group, or whoever the hell it is, has damn near killed them.
