Just checked and an international permit isn't needed in France. Just called my CC provider and they have CDW coverage and it sounds like that may cover most of my needs.
Good point on the navigation. I also print out my route (destination is a house in the middle of the country, not the easiest thing to find) and directions beforehand (I'm old school!) My honey is a good navigator, though. I'm not used to GPS.
