Given his background, it makes sense that their package looks distinctly... single-seater. As the commentators were saying, once they iron out the issues, it could be unbeatable next year.
As far as we are on the topic, I knew the 2016 9R9 looked not too different from the 2015 car. I remember at the time thinking, they didn't put enough effort into this and could be exposed to Toyota and Audi especially if they did a good car for 2016. And the result speaks for itself so far this season, I would say.
