If his shifter malfunctioned, it would explain a lot. He probably put the car in park, (or thought he did), got out and walked down to get the mail and the car rolled into him and crushed him. He probably never saw it coming.

Absolutely awful and it will be the mother of all lawsuits if his people can prove that's what happened.
