Engine Leak, repair or buy another car.
I would get a second or third opinion from one or two more repair facilities and not the dealership. Worst case, you should be able to obtain a used engine for your '97 for much less money than $15k; more like $2500 or less.
Can you be more specific on the issue with your car?
