That's funny, I was just reading through the thread and about to post about my (new to me) Jetta TDI manual. The thing has one of the tallest first gears combined w no torque at idle that makes stalling it really easy if your mind is somewhere else when taking off. Conversely, I've dumped the clutch back in when I feel it stalling and then popped it with more throttle and completely lit up the front tire taking off, which is also the opposite of smooth.
