Since you mentioned Morro Bay, I'd say if you want to get a quiet place on the beach to read a book, try Cambria. The beach side, after the 4th. I'd say late July or August, you should be good to go. Avila is just ridiculously expensive. Morro Bay is very quiet, much more so than San Luis Obispo, although the best pizza I ever had was in SLO. A wooden fire, brick oven pizza. Yummy.
