1970 Vulcan V4 – For buggy applications, the Rotorway Company of Tempe, Arizona offered their water-cooled, 2 cycle V4 aircraft engine as an alternative to the popular air-cooled VW four cylinder boxer engine. Weighing only 100 lbs., about 150 lbs. less than the VW, the Vulcan produced 115 b.h.p. and could rev over 8000 RPM. Rotorway provided the adapter for the VW transaxle. A Crown clutch was used. Pricing was targeted to be competitive with a well prepared VW engine.
