Back in high school I was driving a 1960 VW bug and if it was in gear the gas petal was to the metal. 65 MPH was pretty much flat out it there was a head wind of any sort.
My buddy drove his older brother's GTO with a monster HP engine. His brother went off to Viet Nam and told his little brother to drive it but don't wreck it or spin the tires. Mike was likely the only little brother to do what his older brother asked. He drove that GTO like a grandma. He mostly just idled around.
We were just driving around under the speed limit when a cop saw two teenagers in a hot GTO and pulled us over. Mike was getting grilled and the cop was looking hard for a reason to write a ticket. We were not speeding and were 100% legal. The cop was getting frustrated and our salvation was a radio call for "officer needs help" and the cop left in a hurry.
I never once was pulled over driving my bug, even when I bought the massive 60 HP 1973 Super bug.
